In Pastor Billing's videotaped teachings to those "left behind", he
said, "Also, Scripture indicates that there will be a great lie, announced
with the help of the media and perpetrated by a self-styled world leader. He
said, 'I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another
comes in his own name, him you will receive.'" (LEFT BEHIND page 212)
In Dr. LaHaye's book, Are We Living in the End Times? he wrote concerning
the great lie: "Scripture teaches that a great lie will be published and believed
by the masses left behind after the Rapture." The author cited 2 Thessalonians
2:9-12 and then wrote, "This passage teaches that the people left behind on
earth after the Rapture will believe "the lie," a gargantuan,
bald-faced untruth presented to the public with "all unrighteous deception
among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that
they might be saved." (page 117)
He went on to write, "No one knows for sure what this "lie" will
be, but in Tribulation Force we imagined that it would be a carefully designed
fabrication created to "explain away" the Rapture. We imagined that
the religious-minded would be given an "explanation" like this: Those
who opposed the orthodox teaching of the Mother Church were winnowed out from
among us. The Scripture says that in the last days it will be as in the days of
Noah. And you'll recall that in the days of Noah, the good people remained and
the evil ones were washed away." (page 118)
"No one knows for sure what this 'lie' will be"! Scripture
tells us what this lie is clearly in 2 Thessalonians 2:2-12 if one will keep to
the context: The lie is the belief that the man of sin "Who opposeth and
exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he
as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God" is
actually God! Who will believe this lie? Those to whom God will send strong
delusion. To whom will God send strong delusion? Those who "with all
deceivableness of unrighteousness will perish. Why? Because they received
not the knowledge of the truth that they might be saved. These, who have already
heard the gospel and rejected God, (they believed NOT the truth) will
believe the lie because God himself will have sent strong delusion!
Dr. LaHaye has made an incredibly blatant attempt to make scripture ambiguous or
unclear where it is not ambiguous in order to perpetuate the false doctrine that
those who rejected the truth can still be saved. How did he do
this? By asserting that no one knows for sure what this lie will be even
though scripture clearly describes the lie and who will believe it. If
one does not know what the lie is, then one is not making provision not to
believe it!
What is
"The Lie"?
The lie is that you will believe Antichrist is who he will make
himself out to be: God. If you wait to repent and be converted until after
that Wicked is revealed, you are guaranteed to be converted to Antichrist,
rather than the real Lord Jesus Christ. This is the delusion, or
lie. It is no mystery; it is a clear warning from God's heart of love who
is not willing that any should perish.
He also has set people up to be deceived and believe the lie by giving
them the false hope (repeated over and over in the series) that one has a
second chance to be saved-- even if he has rejected Christ in the past-- after
the tribulation has begun. Scripture shines brightly against this
lie. Who will you believe, God or man?
