Heart And Soul ~The Two Hearts Of Man Article 1
The Lord has led me to commence the Debunking Dark Light series in Chapter 6 because this chapter contains the foundational teachings on which
Stewart Best's unique Strait Gate/Narrow Way doctrine is built. (Quotes are taken from the online Dark Light Series: Chapter Six, Heart and Soul)
"Two Hearts of Man" Doctrine Based on One Out-of-Context Bible Verse
Stewart Best teaches the false doctrine that man has two hearts based on one Bible verse wrenched out of context:
"They speak vanity every one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and WITH A DOUBLE HEART DO THEY SPEAK." (Psalm 12:2)
In this context, double heart plainly means the way in which a person can speak to his neighbor. Speaking with a double heart is to speak with insincerity. The opposite of having a double heart is to be single-hearted. To be single-hearted is to be characterized by sincerity and unity of purpose or dedication.
Another example where the word double does not literally mean two is in the phrase, "double-tongued." Double-tongued does not mean a person literally has two tongues, and neither does speaking with a double heart mean he literally has two hearts.
Without Stewart Best's fabricated "two hearts of man" doctrine, there would be no Strait Gate/ Narrow Way doctrine. That is why he uses so many Bible verses to try and substantiate this doctrine. Because the Bible verses do not teach his "two hearts of man" doctrine, he solves that dilemma by extrapolating meanings from texts that are clearly not there. Let us look at many more examples where Stewart made the plainly written Word of God have a hidden, secret meaning in order to further build the foundation for his esoteric doctrines.
Stewart wrote:
The heart however, is not considered as a SINGULAR ESSENCE. The heart has more than one section or layer, according to the Scripture. A heart can be DIVIDED; IT CAN BE DOUBLED, NOT WHOLE.
"They speak vanity every one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and WITH A DOUBLE HEART DO THEY SPEAK." (Psalm 12:2)
The word 'double' here is in reality a mis-translation. It was simply put in there to express something implied, in reality, the Hebrew used the word 'leb' TWICE. In other words it says 'leb leb'. The word 'leb' means CENTER OR HEART. This is important to us to realize for what the Old Testament is telling us IS THAT THERE ARE TWO CENTERS, TWO HEARTS, TWO 'I AM' LOCATIONS. This is the key to what happened to the MANY CHRISTIANS THAT ARE REJECTED.
Stewart is saying that the Holy Bible has errors in it and is mis-translated. That is what false teachers say when the Bible does not fit their agenda. I assure you the occult Strait Gate/ Narrow Way doctrine is not overtly taught in the scriptures anywhere, and it is not even taught in a secret, hidden manner as Stewart suggests in the title of his book: Dark Light.
Two Hearts Must Be Joined Together?
Stewart gave you another meaning for the word "whole" that fits his agenda. Please just look honestly at these simple, easy-to-understand verses and see that in no way do they have the meanings Stewart assigns to them:
Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with a whole heart. Psalm 119: 2
Here are Stewart's remarks about the above verse:
The word for 'whole' is 'kol' and it means EVERY PART, THE WHOLE, ALL OF IT TOGETHER. In other words, the TWO HEARTS OF MAN, THE TWO CENTERS OF MAN MUST BE UNITED TOGETHER, TO FORM A COMPLETE HEART.
Stewart's overuse of capitalizations should not sway you to accept the meaning he is projecting onto the Bible verse. To seek God with a whole heart is to seek God wholeheartedly or with sincere devotion. It does not have the secret,
hidden meaning that Stewart Best is attributing to it.
So far, Stewart has established two false premises in this chapter: (1) the doctrine of two hearts, and (2) the two hearts (of which scripture does not teach) must become united to form one complete heart.
Best
Disregards the in-context Meaning of Many Scriptures
Stewart's deliberate deceptions continue in his commentary following this Bible verse:
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye search for me WITH ALL YOUR HEART." Jeremiah 29:13
Stewart invented a special meaning for the word "all":
The word 'all' here is 'kol' and as before it MEANS EVERY PART TOGETHER, THE COMPLETE HEART, THE WHOLE OF THE PIECES OF THE HEART TOGETHER.
Stewart does not give you Strong's numbers to document his special definitions of words. You
are expected to take his word for it that the words he ascribes with meanings that violate the context are true. This is dangerous.
The context does not indicate any such notion that searching for God with all your heart means to search with the whole of the pieces of the heart together! It is simply means wholeheartedly. Wholehearted means:
1 : completely and sincerely devoted, determined, or enthusiastic <a wholehearted student of social problems> 2 : marked by complete earnest commitment : free from all reserve or hesitation <gave the proposal wholehearted approval>
The Reason For the Phony Doctrine of Two Hearts?
Stewart asserted:
The command of the Lord was that we AGAPE LOVE WITH ALL OUR HEART, WITH OUR WHOLE HEART, WITH EACH HEART. If man has in fact TWO HEARTS, TWO CENTERS, TWO 'I AM'S', then the command is obvious.
WE ARE TO HAVE THE TWO CENTERS, WHICH ARE SEPARATE, COMBINED AND FORGED TOGETHER INTO A WHOLE UNIT: UNDIVIDED, COMPLETE, PERFECT, is this what Scripture is saying?
Now we are getting to the heart of the matter. If man has two hearts (Stewart Best destroyed the context of one lone Bible verse to come up with this fabrication), and God has commanded us to love with our whole heart, how can this be accomplished? Yes, by combining or connecting the two hearts into one heart. (This has occultic red flags all over it, but we will get to that in another article.)
Stewart projected his own data onto many more scriptures in order to make them fit his false doctrines. Here is another one:
"...THOU SHALT LOVE THE LORD THY GOD WITH THY HEART..." (Matthew 22:37)
Well, with the false premise of man having two hearts firmly in place, Stewart is now able to lead his readers to think that loving God with all your heart is not possible if you have two hearts. Therefore, it follows logically, but not scripturally, that the Christian needs to combine his alleged two hearts into one heart.
Here is another verse in which Stewart manipulatively bends to fit his program:
"For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to SHEW HIMSELF STRONG IN THE BEHALF OF THEM WHOSE HEART IS PERFECT TOWARD HIM...." (2 Chronicles 16:9)
Stewart's commentary:
If God requires that OUR TWO HEARTS, OUR TWO CENTERS TO BE COMBINED AND BOTH OF THEM TRUE TOWARDS HIM, then the reverse of that would be that if only one of our hearts was true towards Him, but the other was not, we would then BE NOT TRUE, BUT FALSE IN OUR CLAIMS OF SEEKING THE LORD.
Isn't it revealing that Stewart is getting all this doctrine out of Bible verses that do not even allude to what he is saying they are teaching? Two hearts need to be combined into one heart in order for us to be true in our claim of seeking the Lord? That is not even faintly suggested in the Holy Bible!
Without Stewart Best's private interpretations, the Straight Gate/ Narrow Way doctrine crumbles to pieces.
According to Stewart Best, if only one of your hearts is true to God, then you are false in your claims of seeking the Lord. And of course if you are false in your claims of seeking the Lord, you are going to hell. Therefore, you need to find out where this secret, hidden, inner heart (spirit man) is and connect it to the heart that you know about. This is Stewart is teaching that God requires of every Christian!
Stewart's Use of the Bible: Same as Cultists
Stewart uses his copious commentary on Bible verses--rather than the verses themselves-- to reinforce his own teachings. The Bible does not teach his invented doctrines, but he definitely uses Bible verses as a springboard for his commentary to reinforce his teachings. Of course he tries to get you to think that he has found these teachings in the Bible by searching them out. No, he uses key words and phrases within Bible verses to use as bridges for his doctrinal themes. That is exactly how cultists use the Bible.
Let us look at some more examples of this:
"And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath NOT TURNED UNTO ME WITH HER WHOLE HEART BUT FEIGNEDLY, saith the LORD." (Jeremiah 3:10)
Look at how Stewart employed this verse to further his "two hearts of man" doctrine." He took some key words (and underlined them for emphasis) and added some commentary in an attempt to tie them in with his underlying message. Stewart uses this technique throughout his writings:
The point God is making here is very clear. IF YOUR HEART IS NOT WHOLLY TURNED, IF BOTH OF YOUR HEARTS ARE NOT UNITED TOGETHER, then you are FEIGNING YOUR DEVOTION, IT IS NOT PURE, IT IS NOT REAL.
Did you notice
how this verse was utilized to tie in the "two hearts of man" and "unite your two hearts" doctrines even where there is no hint of this message in the text he cited? You need to be on the alert for this kind of manipulation in Stewart Best's writings because his writing is literally permeated with this particular practice.
He also uses repetition a great deal. Repetition is actually a propaganda technique, and it is quite effective in reinforcing a teaching until it becomes firmly entrenched in the reader's mind. Stewart's doctrines are not taught in the Bible, but if you read them enough times in his voluminous writings, you can become convinced they are taught in the Bible.
Stewart Best's writings are quite logical. Of what virtue is logic when it is used to deceive? Look at an example of this:
Keep in mind that if something is untrue with God, is vanity, that it is vain. What makes this false, is that it is not done IN TOTALITY. In order to have this be true. THEN ONLY ONE OF THE HEARTS IS INVOLVED, AND NOT THE OTHER. They are both to be brought together, unified.
The Bible verse above is about Judah not turning to God with her whole heart, but rather feignedly, or insincerely. Stewart used this verse to further reinforce his "two hearts of man" doctrine even though the verse does not even imply any such thing! This verse means Judah did not turn to God wholeheartedly, but with a feigned, or insincere heart. A feigned heart does not mean that only one heart is true, but the other heart is not. Stewart Best's commentary on these verses is dishonest.
Nowhere does the Bible teach that man has two hearts--one that you are aware of and one that you are not aware of-- and yet Stewart is trying to get you to believe all the verses he cites are about two hearts of man that must be joined together!
Not Loving Jesus With Your "Inner Heart" Will Send You to Hell?
Stewart defines the Narrow Way doctrine as the method God uses to expose your inner heart (spirit man) to you:
Is this what happened to the 'many' ? Did they sincerely love Jesus with their OUTER CONSCIOUS HEART, AND WILL, but where TOTALLY UNAWARE OF THEIR INNER HEART? If they refused the narrow way, there would be no way they could have known about it, for the NARROW WAY is the method God uses to EXPOSE OUR INNER HEART NATURE TO US.
So now he has revealed that the narrow way is about methodology, and God is supposedly the author of it. We shall see.
