I noticed this statement about the Left
Behind series on the net:
"The
best-selling end-of-time fiction series tells the riveting stories of people
who, after the rapture of the church are "left behind" to experience
the tribulation and other events prior to Christ's return to Earth. With the
prophetic teachings of the Bible as the background, this dynamic apocalyptic
fiction has captured the imaginations of millions."
Wow, according to this quotation, the Left Behind series has "captured the
imaginations of millions." This sounds good, but is it? What
does the Bible teach concerning a Christian and his imagination? Is a
Christian's imagination his own business and under his own authority to indulge
as he pleases?
Imaginations can become vain and men's foolish
hearts can be darkened by them. (Romans 1:21) God commands us to be
"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth
itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought
to the obedience of Christ;" (2 Corinthians 10:5)
Are the fictional scenarios depicted in the Left
Behind series imaginations that are submitted to the full
counsel of God? Or are they exalting
themselves against the knowledge of God? Yes, the imaginations of Left
Behind are against the knowledge of the true God of the Holy Bible.
What is God's Word on Christians refusing to
cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the
knowledge of God? His Word on this matter is the same as when his
people built high places, and set up groves and graven images to sacrifice unto the
gods their imaginations liked best and not the one true God. Remember the
judgments he gave them for refusing to repent of this sin.
A Christian who willingly fellowships with imaginations that are exalted
against the knowledge of God is, in the Lord's sight, every bit
as much of an idolater as a heathen
worshipping graven images. In fact, he is more accountable because he is
knowingly siding with darkness against God! The Christian is
without excuse; he knows that "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."
(1 John 1:5)
Those who continue to indulge in the sin of
willfully indulging in the "exalted against the knowledge of God" imaginations
the Left Behind series promotes such as toying with the ideas of getting away with
taking the mark of the beast, living in willful sin in order to survive, the
intent to murder one's child to
keep him from the Antichrist, etc. will have their hearts darkened.
Jesus warned about lacking a "single
eye" (single-minded devotion) and the consequences of such: "But if thine eye be evil, thy
whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that
is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!" (Matthew 6:23)
Do not allow the light that is in you to
become darkness! Don't entertain imaginations that keep you from being
single-hearted in your devotion to the truth of the Holy Bible. Walk in
the light and obey the Lord Jesus Christ and have a single eye: "The light of the body is the eye:
if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light."
