Tim LaHaye's Comments Regarding Ruby's Criticism of the Left Behind Series

Gloria LaBounty, reporter for the Sun Chronicle newspaper wrote an article called "Wrath of God" March 15, 2003.

I would like to respond to a portion of the article which contained Tim LaHaye's response when asked to comment about my criticisms of the Left Behind Series:

Asked to comment on Ruby's criticism, LaHaye through his publicist sent this to The Sun Chronicle by e-mail:  "Anyone who has read our Left Behind series will realize how false such accusations are. We exalt Jesus Christ and His merciful acts even during the coming time of tribulation. Ruby's problem is that she disagrees with our pre-tribulational rapture concept, which we believe is clearly taught in the Bible. She should rejoice with us that there have been literally thousands of people who have received Christ as their Savior and Lord through reading the Left Behind series, and consequently, they will NOT be left behind when Jesus comes to rapture His church!" --end of excerpt of "Wrath of God" article

Tim LaHaye is incorrect in his implication that God's Wrath on Left Behind was written because I disagree with the pre-tribulation rapture position. I made it clear in an article written over a year ago (updated 1/22/03)--"A Message to My Pre-Trib Visitors" --that I did not write my book for the purpose of refuting the pre-tribulation rapture doctrine promoted in the Left Behind Series. My purpose was more fundamental:

I do criticize the sinful examples of Christianity in the Left Behind series. God has commanded me to write articles and a book about the series' unbiblical treatment of Christianity which is spiritually dangerous to the reader.

Most Christians believe in a pre-tribulation rapture, and Left Behind teaches a pre-tribulation rapture. But make no mistake, refuting the pre-tribulation rapture teaching is not the reason I wrote God's Wrath on Left Behind, although I did not dodge this issue in the book. I wrote the book to expose the antichrist agenda of the Left Behind series. My book is filled with new material that thoroughly proves this statement.

The very first Christians to take my investigative writings about the Left Behind Series seriously were a pre-trib couple:

This Christian couple with strongly-held pre-trib beliefs allowed me to post my Left Behind articles on their site for others to find in the search engines. They permitted this because it was obvious to them that important doctrines pertaining to salvation have been grossly mishandled in the Left Behind series. (See: "A Message to My Pre-Trib Visitors")

update 3/16/03

Tim LaHaye said,

"We exalt Jesus Christ and His merciful acts even during the coming time of tribulation."

My response:

Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? (1 Cor. 5:6) The Left Behind Series contains far more than a little leaven! Let us look at only a few examples:

The teaching (via a sermon!) that Jesus' death on the cross was a martyrdom is not exalting Jesus Christ.

Interchanging God with Satan is not exalting Jesus Christ.

Chang (a Christian) confessing Antichrist before men is not exalting Jesus Christ.

The example that Christians can sin in order to serve God is not exalting Jesus Christ.

Christians praying without faith is not exalting Jesus Christ.

The example of Christians thinking it made sense to give up information that caused other Christians to be killed is not exalting Jesus Christ. (See: George Sebastian is Not an Example of Living By Faith)

Portraying a Christian having a strong desire to kill his captors is not exalting Jesus Christ. (See: George Sebastian is Not an Example of Living By Faith)

Using terrorist talk to describe a killing committed by a Christian is not exalting Jesus Christ. (See: George Sebastian is Not an Example of Living By Faith)
