"LEFT BEHIND" Gospel Leaves
Behind the Holiness of God
Here are a few more comments about the first part of the
"gospel" message that used to be on the
Left Behind website.
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen 1:1) God is a
rational, thinking, feeling, loving being who created the universe and loves
us"
It is strange that they have such a vague, nebulous description of
"God" here. This "God" described could be any god. In fact,
this is NOT a description of the Most High God of the Bible, who is a personal
God with specific attributes glaringly absent here.
Holiness, as I mentioned before, is absent from this description of God. note:
To leave out holiness is to leave out the major attribute that separates the Most
High God from the lesser "gods"--devils. The God of the Bible is HOLY;
other gods are not. I think it's interesting that God's omniscience--he is all
knowing, omnipresence--he is everywhere, and omnipotence--he is all powerful,
which also distinguish him from all other "gods" is also left out.
I assure you that many who worship false gods consider their god to be rational,
thinking, feeling and loving.
It occurred to me today that to leave out a holy God is to leave out a holy
people. A holy God must demand a holy people! --"Because it is written, Be
ye holy; for I am holy."--1 Pet 1:16 It cannot be otherwise. His very
nature requires this holiness in the lives of his people naming his name.
"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of
conversation;--1 Pet. 1:15
The Left Behind series characters' faith in God does not result in them becoming
a holy people, so it makes sense that the holiness of God would be left out on
the Left Behind website.
Most of the "Christians" in the Left Behind series serve sin in their
daily lives, and as such could not be serving a holy God. In real life they
would not be truly saved: "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without
which no man shall see the Lord:"--Heb. 12:14
