The DEFINED King James Bible Does Not
Identify "the
devil" as Satan
The phrase, "the devil," occurs 46 times in the King James
Bible and has two meanings:
Satan or evil spirits
Both meanings serve to identify the enemies
of the Christian's soul.
The DEFINED King James Bible gave only one
definition for the term: "the devil":
demon(s)/evil spirit(s)
The Bible For Today often paid no attention to
context when defining words for their DEFINED King James Bible, but
in this case they did. They provided the definition for "the devil" ONLY when it appears in
the context of an evil spirit.
They never defined "the devil" when it refers to Satan, which is strange
considering the fact that Satan is the primary meaning of the term, "the devil."
If the reader has a poor grasp of Bible
doctrine and/or the English language, the censorship of the other meaning of "the
devil" could cause him to be unaware of Satan's diabolical workings in
this world.
Furthermore, when this reader sees "the devil" defined as unclean/evil spirit, he
is likely to apply that definition every time he sees the phrase, "the devil"
even when it refers to Satan!
Even if the reader is able to discern when "the devil" refers
to Satan, The Bible For Today's omission of the primary definition for "the
devil" is without excuse. Their decision to define "the devil" at all requires
them to define it in both contexts: Satan and his subordinate evil spirits.
The DEFINED King James Bible
kept quiet about the meaning of "the devil" when "the devil
means" Satan in the following verses:
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be
tempted of the devil.
Mat. 4:1
Then the devil
taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
Mat. 4:5
Again, the
devil taketh him up into an exceeding high

the devil he
disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing
accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. Jude 1:9

the devil shall cast
some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation
ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

angels were cast out with him. Rev. 12:9'
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe
to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the
devil is come down unto you, having great wrath,
because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. Rev. 12:12

for ever and ever. Rev. 20:20
The Bible For Today did not mind revealing that
"the devil" refers to an evil spirit but they declined to tell the DKJB reader "the
devil" also refers to Satan. Whose purpose does this
serve?
