Independence Day
by David Neal
This
will not be the typical patriotic story concerning
America
, freedom, flag waving, and heroism with perhaps
a tearful heart rending message. Most who read this will likely become angry and
quite livid (furious, enraged, incensed,
outraged) concerning the truth written herein. This message is intended for
and written to those who identify with Jesus Christ, yet are very comfortable in
the American culture around them. The revelations contained herein will
hopefully cause those who sincerely desire to “follow” Christ to consider
just what path they are on. Perhaps the hearts and direction of some may change
and thus they will find their hope only in Christ. This paper is not meant to
“make light” or “put down” the deep held beliefs of those who are firm
and set in “their own way.” If you do not genuinely want to serve God and
know His truth, then you will never understand this message and have no need to
proceed further. The author has enjoyed a good life (perhaps to good) in the
United States
(henceforth
referred to as
America
). He has no animosity (hostility, hatred) toward this country or its peoples. The author
would never betray this country for any evil reason nor is he proposing to take
up arms (violence) in any way. The
author is not trying to regain freedoms which some suppose have been lost. The
purposes written herein are not to change America
at all (no
such authority is given). The discussion related to the nature (character)
of
America
is just a great example to get you as an
individual to honestly think about your own life and which direction or
“path” you are headed down.
The
ideals of
America
very much parallel the fallen nature of man. To
change the ideals of
America
would be to change the very fallen nature of
man. This only God can do one individual (heart)
at a time as they surrender all to Him (through
Christ) and come back under His authority. Cummulatively, this would not
only change
America, but the world. This message is intended to cause you, oh religious one,
to examine your heart (2 Cor 13:5) and
ask God to do the same (Ps 139:23-24)
by revealing the truth of your life which may be masked by blindness and
deception. If you read this article and sincerely confirm that you are in Christ
Jesus and have no cause for concern (walking
in His light), then the author rejoices with you that you are on the narrow
path. This message is being written on the Eve and day of the American
Independence Day celebration. The author no longer celebrates this holiday nor
was he pondering it in any way until the Lord suddenly put this writing on his
heart. The author has surrendered totally to Jesus Christ and serves (honors,
worships) none other. God’s Word makes it quite clear that you are to love
God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength (Mk
12:30
); this is total submission to the Lord. This is
not a suggestion. You are further told: Exodus 20:3, “Thou shalt have no other
gods before me.” There are a multitude of gods in the world. These idols are
anything in your life that is placed above God and especially including “your
own way” (Is 42:8). Since God
requires us to lovingly (freely)
surrender with a willing mind and perfect heart to obey Him fully, it does not
take much from another source to “rise above” (1
Chr 28:9). Patriotism and love of one’s country can very easily become
idols put before God. A patriot is one who loves and defends his country. This
means that you hold dear the ideals which the country represents as keeping with
your own. The hope of this paper is to give the reader insight into the ideals
of
America
and perhaps motivate you to seriously consider
if these ideals are the direction or “path” you want to be headed down.
Partaking of the evils in the society (culture)
around you can also very quickly become seeking your own way rather than
following God’s Way. It is the great challenge and duty of the author to tell
those who profess Christ and are going about “their way” that they are
living and should be dying1 – while
cutting through all the blindness and deception. You say that you “love
Jesus” and are following, but the path is the way of the cross2
which spells death to “SELF” (Rm
7:18
, 2 Tim
2:11
). This act of love will no doubt be received
with much scorn by many. Let us carefully consider what the Lord would say to
His people.
Laying the
Foundation
In
the beginning man was created by God and in the image of God (having
the Lord’s nature) and after the likeness of God (spirit, Gen
1:26
-27).
Genesis 2:7, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
Man (first Adam, then Eve from Adam)
was made of the dust of the earth which was fashioned into a physical body (known
as the flesh). God breathed an eternal spirit into the flesh (the spirit’s temporary container). Although the spirit is eternal,
the flesh is temporal (due to the fall of
man) and will return to the dust from which it was taken (Gen
3:19
, Job
34:15, Eccl
3:20
). Ecclesiastes 12:7, “Then shall the dust
return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave
it.” The spirit is now confined by the flesh. In the beginning man was created
to worship and serve his Creator, lovingly and obediently. God is sovereign over
His creation. This means God is supreme in power and possesses supreme dominion3.
Man was placed in a beautiful garden, known as
Eden
and given meaningful work to perform (Gen
2:8, 15). God provided for all of man’s needs in the garden (Gen
1:29
, 2:9, 16).
Man was also given dominion over all the earth and the other creatures God had
made (Gen
1:28
). In order for man to freely and lovingly serve God, a choice was provided
within the garden. One is forced to serve in the absence of choices, and God
desires willingness of heart and love. This choice was in terms of the fruit of
two distinct trees (Gen 2:9). To eat
of the one tree was life through submission to the will of God. To eat of
the other tree was to transgress God’s will and choose your own will and this
brought death. Genesis
2:17
, “But of the tree of the knowledge of good and
evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for
in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt
surely die.” This choice determined man’s free will to serve God. The
fruit from the forbidden tree was “pleasant to the eyes”
(desirable to the flesh, Gen 3:6).
There is no doubt that man through the eyes of the flesh was drawn to this tree.
The spirit must always overcome (rise
above) the desires of the flesh in order to walk in obedience to God and
bring God glory. The fruit from the tree of life was most likely plain (did
not stand out) and unappealing to the flesh, but represented a choice for
the spirit (love, devotion and obedience to God) and not the flesh. God does not
deal with man on the basis of the desires of the flesh (does
not serve the flesh). What God was telling man was that the fruit of the
forbidden tree was poison; it was toxic to the very nature and leads to death
– but it looks so good.
Lucifer
(meaning Light Bearer) is a creation
of God from another time and place. He was once an anointed Cherub that walked
in
Eden
the
garden
of
God
, and provided a spiritual covering for God’s
earthly creation (Ez 28:13-14).
Lucifer is a created being (spirit)
who was perfect in all his ways until iniquity was found in him (Ez 28:15). The seed of iniquity was in Lucifer’s heart by reason
of his wisdom and perfect beauty (Ez
28:12, Ez 28:2, 31:8-10). His heart was lifted up because of the brightness
of his beauty and this corrupted his wisdom (Ez
28:17). The iniquity found was self-exaltation resulting in complete
outright rebellion against God. Lucifer’s wisdom was corrupted because he now
sought to live and perform his own will above God’s – “thine heart is
lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God (Ez
28:2, 31:10).” Consider the rebellion: Isaiah
14:13-15, “For thou hast said in thine
heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:
I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I
will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet
thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” Can you see the
I, I, and the Me, Me? Can you see how this negates the will of the one true God
of all? Such pride, such arrogance – these are characteristics
that God hates, for they are an abomination to Him (Pv
16:5). Lucifer’s devotion (heart)
was to himself and seeking those things which would bring satisfaction to self.
Lucifer exalted himself and was cast down and greatly humbled (Ez
28:13-17, 31:16). Lucifer has fallen and is now known as Satan, the devil,
the serpent, or the dragon. God has already pronounced a judgment upon him of an
eternal separation into the lake of fire to be carried out at a later time (Rev
20:1-3, 10, Jn
16:11
). For now God uses him for the Lord’s purposes. The rebellion is being
allowed to take its course throughout creation to sift those who will seek God
with all their hearts from those who will seek their self with all their hearts.
The
devil entered the Garden of Eden in the form of a serpent and convinced man (first Eve, then Adam) to transgress God’s will by eating of the
fruit of the forbidden tree. In conversation with the serpent, Eve said: Genesis
3:3-5, “But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God
hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest
ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye
shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then
your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall
be as gods, knowing good and evil.” The devil “lied” and told man that
he could transgress the will of God for reasons of self and not die. The devil
told them that they could come out from under God’s authority or rule and seek
their “own way” and thus “become as gods.” This has been “The
Lie” since the beginning and is now burned (interwoven)
into the very nature of fallen man. All the sin, confusion and rebellion in the
world can be traced back to this lie. Man chose to obey the devil rather than
God and fallen man now has the nature of the devil (the nature of the lie). How dishonoring to God to submit to that
which opposes Him in willful disobedience to God’s Word. In a sense this was
man’s “independence day” in rebelling against his Creator in favor of self
rule. Many celebrate this independence through their actions everyday. This was
man choosing to be his own authority rather than submitting to the authority of
God. Man now seeks after the things which please his flesh – this is man’s
way. Man sought what his flesh perceived as good (not the spirit) and man’s flesh became his god (Pv
8:36
). Since man chose his flesh over obedience to
God, man now serves the flesh (obeys
it’s desires, it’s lusts). Psalm 81:12, “So I gave them up unto their
own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels.” All sin (iniquity)
is resultant from serving the flesh (rather
than God) which is resultant from the devil’s lie (which
is the devil’s own nature). God said, “thou shalt surely die” and so
it was and now is. All men die physically (Heb
9:27
); those who continue in this rebellion against God die spiritually (the
second death) in that they are separated from God eternally into torment (into
the lake of fire,
Rev 20:12
-15).
Even though the devil convinced man to join his rebellion against God, they are
not united in it. Part of God’s curse upon the serpent was enmity (hatred,
hostility) between the serpent (devil)
and man (Gen
3:15
). God through His love and mercy has provided a
way, “The only Way,” for man to renounce and relinquish his rebellion
against the Lord and come back under His authority. Daniel 9:9, “To the Lord
our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against
him.” This is accomplished only through God’s only begotten Son, Jesus
Christ (Jn
10:25-26, 14:6, Acts
4:12
, 1 Jn 5:11). The
devil has no hope of any such salvation. Therefore, the devil seeks to destroy
man by separating him for his Creator through transgression and death.
Therefore, the devil is an adversary, who, as a roaring lion, walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour (1 Pt 5:8).
God will not allow the devil to force man’s free will, so he has to lure man
through his own lusts (of the flesh)
into seeking his “own way” (which is
his fallen nature) and thus continuing in the rebellion which is resultant
in eternal death (Ps 34:7). James
1:13-15, “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for
God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is
tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust,
and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” This
isn’t God’s doing, man chose “his way” in rebelling against God’s will
and authority. Our actions have definite consequences and we reap what we sow (Gal 6:7-8, Job 4:8). Since man has the nature of the devil (Jn
8:44
), it isn’t difficult for the devil to entice
one who is not fully submitted to God (2
Cor
2:11
, Eph
4:27
). 2 Timothy
2:26
, “And that they may recover themselves out of
the snare of the devil, who are taken
captive by him at his will.” As mentioned, God has mercifully (lovingly) provided man “The Way” to come back under His
authority. John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the
way, the truth, and the life: no man
cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Therefore, the devil’s ploy (scheme, strategy) is to keep man seeking his “own way” and from
finding this strait gate/door (Jesus, Jn
10:9), and walking on the “path” or “way” which leads to God.
Walking the path is “following” Jesus (Jn
10:4). This is not a one time confession, but an entire life of
faith. You must walk the path, otherwise you are as the devil and his fallen
angels (demons). James
2:19
, “Thou believest
that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe,
and tremble.” The devils know of God’s reality, they once served the Lord.
The situation is that the devils do not serve God now, because they are in
rebellion. When man mentally agrees or acknowledges God, yet is not walking in
God, then he is no different. The devil will convince many who are seeking their
own way that they are actually serving God – he is very crafty. This is known as deception. To be deceived is to
be convinced you are serving God when in reality you are not. The devil uses
many “religious” things to do this. To truly serve God, we must walk the
Lord’s path. The walk is where God tears down all the things of your flesh and
conforms you to Christ in humbleness, love, obedience, and devotion to God.
Every one that is perfect shall be as his master (Christ,
Lk
6:40
). This is preparation for eternity. God
“leads” in the way of righteousness (Pv
8:20
), and this is life (Pv
12:28
,
21:21
). Righteousness
and obedience keep you in God’s way or path (Pv
10:17
, 13:6). Because man sought his way (path),
he lost access to the tree of life (in
Eden
, Gen
3:22
-24) and this brought death. The fruit of
righteousness is as the tree of life (Pv
11:30
) and this brings life – this is the fruit God desires in you..
Therefore,
from the beginning, God said if you transgress My will and authority (Gen
2:17
), “thou will surely die” and the devil said
(Gen 3:4), “ye shall not surely
die.” These are two completely opposite positions (resultant
ways or paths of life). God states, you will obey Him and the devil says,
you do not have to – one position is in rebellion to the other (as
is the devil to God). Man will live his life in conformance to one or the
other of these statements and the consequences will be eternal. Since the fall
of man (transgressing of God’s will),
there has existed two paths. Throughout the Word of God these paths are known as
either: the narrow and broad ways; light and darkness; faith and unbelief;
God’s way and man’s way; Spirit and the flesh; sheep and the goats; and
wheat and the tares. The two paths are the same, just characterized differently.
The wise should ponder the two paths and consider which they are truly
traveling. It is also very important to note
that many will “religiously” sugar coat or throw a sheep skin over the
devil’s way (lie) in order to
“Christianize” it (Pv 17:15, 24:24, Mt
7:15). This means that they will have a form of religion that professes
Jesus Christ and appears righteous, but allows one to “walk” in his “own
way” supposedly with Christ’s approval or by God’s grace4.
These are false prophets and you must beware (2
Cor
11:13
-15).
This is the deception that the devil is working in you through your lusts. These
men drive the flock away from God (Jer
23:2, 14). He that despiseth God’s ways (commands)
shall die (Pv
19:16
). How can a man understand his own way (Pv
20:24
)? Jeremiah 10:23-24, “O LORD, I know that the
way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in
thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.” Psalm 17:5, “Hold up my goings
in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.” The paragraphs that follow will
briefly consider each of the expressions of the two “ways” or “paths.”
The
narrow and broad paths - Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for
wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many
there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way,
which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Since the strong
nature of fallen man is to seek his own way, most are on the broad path which
leads to destruction. The broad path “glitters” of all that appeals to
one’s flesh (pleasures, entertainments,
comforts, satisfactions). The broad path is the equivalent to the fruit of
the forbidden tree – “it is pleasant to the eyes” (Gen 3:6) – to be desired. Most are drawn to this path and find it
agreeable. Jesus is the strait gate to the narrow path (Jn 10:7-9). Psalms 118:19-20, “Open to me the gates of
righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD: This gate of the
LORD, into which the righteous shall enter.” The narrow path is plain and very unappealing to the flesh. The narrow path
would be equivalent to the fruit of the tree of life – unattractive (ordinary,
plain) and not attractive to the flesh. Those seeking the things of the
flesh will be blinded to the fact that the narrow path is even there. The narrow
path leads to God and only those who come out of the rebellion (nature
of the devil’s lie) and are “born again” through Christ (come under God’s authority and take on the Lord’s nature) will
even see it (Jn 3:3). This path will
cause great difficulty for the flesh. One must override (by faith) the desires of the flesh (in repentance) to even see it (Jn
3:3). Psalm 27:11, “Teach me thy way,
O LORD, and lead me in a plain path,
because of mine enemies.” Those who choose this path must look beyond the
beauty that the flesh seeks and see the great value which will be realized only
through sacrifice, denial and loss in the flesh – it goes against the
reasoning of the flesh. The strait gate to the narrow path is only entered by
total surrender of one’s own will or “way” to Jesus and total obedience to
Christ’s will (commandments, Mk 12:29-31) or “Way.” This does not mean some
mental identification such as some superficial sinner’s prayer type of
confession (Heb 4:2). Say this prayer
and “ye shall surely not die” (Gen
3:4-5). This means a total and complete yielding of one’s entire life as demonstrated
through one’s actions (actions suitable
for the repentance you have confessed, Acts 26:20) – a life of faith. This
is a total change of character that will be noticeably (evidently, distinctly, clearly) manifested in your life. In other
words, not just a religious observance. Few will find this path because this
will be a life long journey of “following” in the steps of another (Christ).
Most are too busy forging their own paths. Jesus “goeth before” and those
who love Him follow (Jn 10:4, Mk
10:32
). This means that this path is set of
another’s doing. Jesus forged the path through absolute submission and
obedience to the Father’s will5. The
Father was well pleased (Mt 3:17, 12:18,
17:5). The path was made at great cost – woe to him that seeks another.
This is the direction one is going (toward
God) when one follows this path and it leads to life eternal; dwelling with
God. This path is very arduous (by divine
design) and will certainly deny the flesh. This path will put the flesh in
its place – in the dust. The flesh is temporal and does not profit (Jn 6:63). One must die to self to even walk upon it1.
One walks as Jesus walked6
and through the ruggedness of the path is conformed to Christ’s image7
along the way. Seeking one’s own way will quickly lead off of this path and
onto the broad path – the fleshly eye is drawn by the glitter. Not
“following” Jesus is “walking away” (opposite)
from Him. Each step is one farther away, culminating in total and eternal
separation. This is by God’s pattern to determine the true intent of one’s
heart. Woe to them who leave the path of uprightness to walk in paths of
darkness (Pv 2:13). Here is wisdom:
Proverb 3:6, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall
direct thy paths.” Jesus is worthy to follow because He was tried and found to
be sure and true (Is 28:16).
Light
and darkness – Jesus is “the way” and is characterized as being “The
Light8” and there is no darkness in
Him (He did God’s will, didn’t seek
His own way, 1 Jn 1:5). Darkness is the devil’s work, which are all things
resultant from “The Lie” (Eph 2:2).
Light is opposite from darkness as is God’s way from the devil’s. Therefore,
men walking in their way (seeking their
will or flesh) are in darkness. Due to man’s disobedience the whole world
lieth in darkness (1 Jn 5:19).
However, God’s light always overcomes the darkness (Jn
1:5) – when light is present, darkness flees. Proverbs 4:18-20, “But the
path of the just is as the shining light,
that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” However, Proverb 4:19,
“The way of the wicked is as darkness:
they know not at what they stumble.” After man had transgressed God’s will
in Eden, he walked in the darkness of his “own way.” Isaiah 9:2, “The
people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the
land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” The darkness
they walked in was their “own path” which is in the “shadow of death.”
Your way is just a step from eternal and complete separation from the Lord God
Almighty. The gates of death are opening for
you (Job 38:17). This gate is the
opposite from Jesus who is the strait gate leading to life. Jesus brought hope
that we could come out of “our way” and into “Christ’s path.” Jesus
said: John 12:46, “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth
on me should not abide in darkness.” So those who follow Christ will not abide
in their “own way” which is man’s rebellion against God. John 8:12,
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he
that followeth me shall not walk in
darkness, but shall have the light of life.” We must follow Jesus on that
narrow path that He forged, otherwise we walk in our “own” darkness (Jude
1:12-13). However, few will travel the narrow path, rather choosing their
“own way,” but why? John 3:19-20, “And this is the condemnation, that
light is come into the world, and men loved
darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one
that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds
should be reproved.” These actually prefer their own path (Pv
15:9). Those who love darkness are not necessarily doing vile things such as
murder and adultery, but rather just seeking their own will daily. However,
seeking your own way does lead to all manner of sin. 1 John 1:6-7, “If we say
that we have fellowship with him, and walk in
darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he
is in the light, we have fellowship one with another (Christ
and you), and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us
from all sin.” These are content to remain in the rebellion under the
authority of the devil via the devil’s lie. Job
24:13, “They are of those that rebel against the light; they know
not the ways thereof, nor
abide in the paths thereof.”
AND Job 12:25, “They grope in the
dark without light, and he maketh
them to stagger like a drunken man.” They behold obscurity (shadows,
muriness); for brightness, but walk
in darkness (Is 59:9).
These may be adamant that they know the way and are walking it, while
professing Christ as they go, but they still walk in their own paths.
Only
the Lord is our light (path) and salvation from our own darkness (way, Ps 21:7). Psalm 36:9, “For with thee is the fountain of life:
in thy light shall we see light.” For those who choose their “own way,”
great peril awaits at the end thereof (Rm
2:5-6, 8-9, Eph 4:18-19). Ephesians 5:14, “Wherefore he saith, Awake thou
that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.”
Lastly, a special note to the religious man: Luke 11:35, “Take heed therefore
that the light which is in thee be not darkness.” Slightly restated: Take heed
that the path you are following be not “your own.” Take heed that there be
not great darkness within you (Mt 6:23).
Faith
verses unbelief - Faith is walking by God’s direction. God cannot be
approached in any other way (Heb 11:6).
Romans 1:17, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to
faith: as it is written, The just shall live by
faith.” Living by faith means applying it to every area of your live (being a doer, Js 1:23-24). Faith does not walk by sight (2
Cor 5:7, Heb 11:1) – but by total trust and reliance on that which is
beyond self (God alone, Gal 2:20, Ps 2:12). Faith bypasses the flesh because it
cannot be understood through human reasoning and emotion (is as foolishness, 1 Cor 1:18, 2:14) or perceived by the five senses
(touch, sight, smell, hearing, taste).
Faith is not exercised by “what is pleasant to the eyes.” Faith often
requires denial and sacrifice to the things of the flesh. The flesh will not
like the notion of forsaking anything - faith denies the flesh its control.
Therefore, to follow the flesh or “your way” is unbelief. Unbelief is
rejection of Christ’s gospel by not actually living it – applying it. Mere
profession of Christ or words are hollow and require no sacrifice (Js 2:19), but actions bring forth sacrifice and fruit and establish
the heart’s intent (Jn 15:2). If the
flesh or unbelief is strong, then faith is weak (and vice versa, Rm 4:20). The things that the flesh seeks (sees)
are temporal and passing; but the things that are known (unfolded,
revealed) through faith are eternal (2
Cor 4:18). Faith will save us and unbelief will surely cause us to perish.
Hebrews 3:19, “So we see that they could not
enter in (to God’s promises) because
of unbelief.” You cannot enter the strait gate (Jesus)
through unbelief (your way, religious or
not). The narrow path is walked by faith. Faith is not religious observance,
but rather trust in God everyday, which goes beyond your abilities. Faith is to
cast away those things in your life that oppose (and shame) God so that you may bring glory to God. Faith is standing
for truth (even if alone) when
everyone else doesn’t. Faith is denying the flesh its desires (pleasures,
entertainments) so that your heart and mind can be stayed upon the Lord.
Through our faith, God divinely influences our hearts (i.e.
grace, Eph 2:8) and this is manifested in our actions to the saving of our
souls. Faith is saying, “Thy will be done” no matter what God directs or
brings. Faith doesn’t question, it does. Faith pleases God. Those seeking
their way or path say, “My will be done.” This is prideful, arrogant and
rebellious to God. Those that walk in their way often ask God (through
prayer) to bless “their way” – they want God to be their servant.
Those that are contentious (headstrong)
and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness (their way, doeth evil) can expect to receive indignation, wrath,
tribulation and anguish from God (Rm 2:8-9).
God’s
way and man’s way - God’s way is only followed by yielding totally to Him
with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength (Luke
10:27). Deuteronomy 10:12-13, “And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God
require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to
love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy
soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command
thee this day for thy good?” - to cleave to Him in obedience (Deut 13:4)! This is how things were prior to man’s fall and this
is how things will be eternally forever more. If you are not living such a life
now, what makes you think you will be in eternity? If you are not obedient now,
does not the Creator of all things know that you will have no such desire later?
Man’s way (seeking self or your own way)
could also be characterized as “seeking after the imaginations of your own
heart9” or “doing what is right in
your own eyes.10” The thoughts of
the wicked are an abomination to the Lord (Pv 15:26). Man has continued to follow his way since being put out
of Eden. Consider the fruit of man’s doings: Genesis 6:5-6, “And GOD saw
that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved
him at his heart.” God was so grieved that He decided to completely
destroy man in a flood (Gen 6:7). Fortunately, Noah found grace in God’s sight and he and
his offspring were preserved. Genesis 6:12-13, “And God looked upon the
earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all
flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is
filled with violence through them;
and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” The same can certainly be
said of the time in which we live – things couldn’t be much worse. Man has
almost exclusively followed “his way” since the transgression in Eden. This
has been unacceptable and abominable to God. Man’s way has revealed itself
time and again such as through the tower of Babel (Gen
11:1-9); evil nations like the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites,
Perizzites, Hivites, and the Jebusites (Deut
7:1-8, 9:4); or in wicked cities like Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen
13:13, 18:20, 19:13, 2 Pt 2:6). God has appealed11
to man over and over to turn from “his way” and to submit and obey the Lord.
Isaiah 65:2, “I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious
people, which walketh in a way that was not good; after
their own thoughts.” The Lord also said, “Yea, they
have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their
abominations.” Man continually choses his own way because it is in his very
nature (the lie he accepted to be as gods).
Therefore, man never sees anything wrong in what he does. Proverb
16:25
, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man
(his way), but the end thereof are the
ways of death.” AND Proverb 21:2, “Every way of a man is right in his own
eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts (intent,
who is seeking God).” When man commits abomination through “his ways,”
he is not ashamed, neither does he blush (Jer
8:12) because he does not delight in God’s Word (seeking
and living in God’s way); for it is a reproach to him (Jer 6:10). Man has historically always sought to place his will or
way above God’s. This has been shown (revealed)
over and over again in God’s Word. This is easily proven by looking at the
world around us. Psalm 128:1, “Blessed
is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways (also Pv 3:6).”
Spirit
and the flesh – Jesus has given the Holy Spirit12
to those who will follow Him. The Spirit leads us down the narrow path and
teaches us along the way. Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” The flesh
is the nature of man that seeks “self” or it’s “own way.” The Spirit
and the flesh are contrary (opposed)
to one another (Gal 5:17). Obviously
you cannot seek your way and also seek God’s way simultaneously – they are
always opposed. Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them
which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after
the flesh, but after the Spirit.” To
walk after the Spirit is to walk the narrow path, living completely to the will
of God (Mk 3:35) having no confidence
in the flesh (Php 3:3). The narrow
path is contrary to the flesh as is the Spirit. To walk after the flesh is to
walk as you see fit under your own authority – your thoughts, opinions,
sentiments, desires, and imaginations. The Lord searches the hearts and
understands all the imaginations of the thoughts (1
Chr 28:9). The eyes of the
LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth,
to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him (2
Chr 16:9). To profess Jesus, yet not walk as He walked (to
be religious) is to be condemned (while
being blind and deceived, Mt 7:21). If we claim to live in the Spirit, then
we must walk in the Spirit (Gal 5:25).
Romans 8:5, “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the
flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” We will
either travel one path or the other, but not both (simultaneously).
God is not ridiculed concerning those who think they can alternate back and
forth between the paths. Galatians 6:7-8, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his
flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall
of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” If you live to the flesh (the
devil’s lie), then God’s original truth stands: “Thou shalt surely
die” (Gen 2:17). The way we do
things will reveal which path we are on (Mt
7:16, 20) – what we mind (give place
to, seek/serve). The fleshly mind (way
of doing things) is enmity (deep
hatred, as between enemies, bitter attitude toward) with God: Romans 8:8,
“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” If we have
Christ’s Spirit we will walk accordingly, if we do not then we are none of His
(Rm 8:9, 1 Jn 4:10). Romans 8:13,
“For if ye live after the flesh (your
way), ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the
body (die to self or your way, Col 3:5-6), ye shall live.” So we must
travel God’s path and have no confidence in our way (flesh, Php 3:3). Galatians 5:16, “This I say then, Walk in the
Spirit (God’s narrow path), and ye
shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh (man’s
wrongful way). 1 John 2:17, “And the world passeth away, and the lust
thereof (ways of man): but he that
doeth the will of God (God’s way)
abideth for ever.” Here is some wise advice: earnestly seek the Lord through
His Word, Spirit and prayer; then carefully examine your life (ponder)
and have eyes to see the reality of how these things must apply to your specific
actions.
Sheep
and the goats – Sheep are gentle, humble and loving by nature and follow where
they are led. Sheep follow when called! Goats are gruff, assertive, ornery (irritable, crabby, grouchy) and like to go about their own way.
Goats must be driven! Sheep represent those submitted to Christ. Goats represent
those submitted to the devil. John 10:3-4, 7-8, 14, 26-27, “To him the porter
openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and
he calleth his own sheep by name (relationship, Jn
14:21
, 23),
and leadeth them out (Psalm
chap. 23). And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he
goeth before them (Christ came and led
by example, also Mk
10:32
), and the sheep
follow him: for they know his voice (relationship,
obedience, Jn
12:26
). Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily,
verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the
sheep (Christ’s authority). All that
ever came before me are thieves and robbers (anything
we put ahead of Christ robs us of our life in Him): but the sheep did not
hear them (our eyes must be on Jesus).
I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep,
and am known of mine (precious close relationship). But ye believe not, because ye are not
of my sheep, as I said unto you (those who
seek their own path and do not follow, but think they are His sheep). My
sheep hear my voice, and I
know them, and they follow me (this is all
day, everyday). Jesus looks for every lost sheep: Luke 15:4, “What man of
you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety
and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find
it?” The goats are not submitted to the shepherd, just themselves and their
endless lusts – they eat anything – even a big fat lie! Matthew 25:34, 41,
“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand (sheep),
Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand (goats),
Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting
fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” If
serving God seems compulsory, restrictive or like a burden, then you are being
driven like a goat. Those who are driven will be quick to compromise or find a
less restrictive path. Those who are driven will only want to do the minimum
that seems to be required. Those who are driven will always wonder, “what’s
in it for me (Job 21:15, 35:3).”
Those who are driven may do things in secret. Those who are driven find comfort
in numbers. Those who are driven will at best grudgingly follow God. Those who
are driven will seek a multitude of counsels until they hear what they are
looking for (Ps 5:10). Hosea 14:9,
“Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know
them? for the ways of the LORD are right,
and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors
shall fall therein.”
Wheat
and the tares – The wheat grain represents the good seed of the harvest that
one expects to reap from one’s efforts. This is the fruit resulting from the
life of the plant that is fit for use (life
giving). Tares are the weeds that grow up amongst the wheat and their lives
have no redeeming value, and they actually hinder the growth and productivity of
the wheat. Jesus told a parable concerning wheat and tares (Mt
13:24-43). A parable is a simple story dealing with a very real circumstance
(situation, fact, event) in which the
principal subject is described by another subject resembling it in its
properties and circumstances. In this story, a man (representing Jesus) sows wheat into a field (the world). His enemy (representing
the devil) comes and sows tares among his wheat (the devil’s children). The wheat and the tares look alike until
the fruit appears (Mt 13:26). This is
how you know them: by their fruits (Mt
7:20). The fruits are what they produce in their life. Tares soak up the
water and use the nutrients and spread all about seeking their way, but produce
nothing useful, just more of their kind (they
transgress). The man’s servants (angels)
inform him of the situation and request to remove the weeds. He tells them to
let them grow together until the end of the harvest, lest uprooting them, they
should hurt the wheat. Until such time, God sends rain and sun on the good and
the bad, the just and the unjust (Mt 5:45).
At harvest time, the tares are gathered first and put into bundles and burned in
the fire (eternal torment, Rev 20:11-15);
then the wheat is gathered to the barn (dwelling with God, Mt 13:30). Matthew 13:41-43, “The Son of man
shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things
that offend, and them which do iniquity; And
shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of
teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their
Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.”
Pride
A
major component in the rebellion against God is pride. Pride is the exalting of
one’s self. The devil tried to raise his throne above God, and be as the most
High (Is 14:14); and this is arrogance
and pride. The devil’s lie proposed to man, “ye shall be as gods” (Gen 5:5). This is pride (vanity,
elevation, loftiness) and arrogance (conceit,
haughtiness). The devil speaketh to man of his own (Jn 8:44). Pride is conceit or overconfidence of one’s own self and
may be manifested through exalting of one’s accomplishments (achievements)
and abilities. These are wise in their own sight, and prudent in their own eyes
(Is
5:21
). Arrogance is the act of taking much upon
one’s self. It also exalts the worth of one’s “self” to an undue degree.
A high look and proud heart is sin (Pv
21:4). For man to exalt his will, then God’s will must suffer. To walk in
your way rather than God’s way is just such undue self exaltation. You are
conveying that your way is superior, more important and worthy of adherence (devotion, obedience, observance, loyalty, faithfulness). Do you see
how this negates God and relegates Him to unimportance (unworthy)? When man pridefully seeks his own path, then man does not
follow God’s path. God hates pride13!
Proverb
8:13
, “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride,
and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” Is there
any question as to why God would hate pride? Pride is an affront to the very
“being” of God. Luke 1:51, “He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath
scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.” God resists the proud
and loves the humble (Js 4:6). Luke
1:51-52, “He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud
in the imagination of their hearts (seeking
their way). He hath put down the mighty
from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.”
One does not travel God’s narrow path in pride; only by submission, humbleness
and meekness. To become great in the kingdom of God, you must become least (Mt
18:4). Jesus submitted to the Father and we submit to Christ (1
Cor 11:3, Jn 15:10). One submits to the will of another. What is being
submissive? To submit/yield to the authority of another without objection or
resistance. To be ruled by the decision, will or judgment of another. This
encompasses meekness, obedience, surrender, yielding, and humbleness. In heaven,
the angels are in submission to God’s authority (Mt
6:10, Lk 11:2, Heb 1:5, 2:5, Jude 1:6). He that is least of all, the same
shall be great (Lk 9:48). God desires
such submission in all of us and this is not a dishonor (Eph 5:21). To be anything else is to be prideful (Mt
23:12). To be first you must be last and a servant to all (Mk
9:35). To be greatest/chiefest, you must be servant of all (Mt 23:11, Mk 10:44). This confounds the flesh! To man’s way, this
is foolishness (1 Cor 1:18, 2:14). To
be submissive is to be meek. Meekness is submission to the divine will of God (Ps
22:26, 25:9) and these will inherit the earth (Ps
37:11, Mt 5:5). Man mostly seeks God for blessings, healings or to get
“self” out of difficult situations (which
come about as a result of following your own way). This is turning God into
your servant, and that is haughtiness. This is making God submissive and
obedient to your will – oh how incredibly prideful and arrogant! God does hear
the prayers of the righteous, and answers them when things are in right
order (our submission and humbleness to Him) or according to His purposes (Jn
9:31). When Israel was unfaithful to God, He told Jeremiah to not pray for
them and that He would not hear their prayers (Jer
7:16-19, 14:10-12, Is 1:12-17). Jeremiah 11:14, “Therefore pray
not thou for this people,
neither lift up a cry or prayer
for them: for I will not
hear them in the time that they cry unto
me for their trouble.” Our prayers must always put God first. 1
John 5:14, “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask
any thing according to his will, he heareth
us.” 1 John 3:22, “And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we
keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing
in his sight.” Many cannot understand why their prayers seem to go
unanswered. 1 Peter 3:12, “For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous,
and his ears are open unto their prayers:
but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.” Most think of evil in
terms of vile acts, however evil is just disregarding God in your daily life.
When you live for God’s will, He responds to your requests. James 4:3, “Ye
ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your
lusts.” God’s will is not for those with selfish or wicked motives.
Proverb 15:29, “The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the
prayer of the righteous.” When we rise above our will and seek only God’s,
then our prayers will be answered – and things will go well. Consider the
Lord’s return (Day of the Lord):
Isaiah 2:11-12, 17, “The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the
haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in
that day. For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud
and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low.
And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall
be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.” AND Isaiah
5:15
-16, “And the mean man shall be brought down,
and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:
But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall
be sanctified in righteousness.”
The Message
Having
read the foundation of why things are the way they are, many will now say:
“What does this have to do with America and Independence Day?” Please pray
that God will lift the blindness and give you eyes to see as we proceed in this
message. The foundation had to be laid such that you will be in the proper frame
of mind and understanding for what is written. To preface this writing, we must
all understand that throughout history, nations and peoples have always assumed
that their causes are just and that God is on their side. They have always
assumed divine intent and endorsement of their beliefs, ideals and purposes. To
illustrate the point, an example that most Americans can relate to: Adolf Hitler
and Nazi Germany absolutely believed their cause was just. They not only
believed God was on their side, but had a motto, “Gott Mit Uns” (God with us). Remember that Christ’s name, Emmanuel, means “God
with us” (Mt 1:23). People rarely
follow wickedness unless it is sugar-coated with noble intent – known as
deception. Most men are quite gullible to evil and only wise in their own eyes (Pv
3:7, 12:15, Is 5:21, Jer 4:22). When considering the ideals of America, the
author does not disregard the fact that there are and have been many true
followers of Christ in America that have influenced this country (and
it’s development) in some positive ways. This paper rather examines what
the predominate American culture represents and why it is contrary to God’s
expectations of what we must be. We must
also realize that Christian rhetoric (words,
not actions) can often mask the truth and leave many deluded (fooled, tricked, misled) in blindness and deception. Hasn’t this
always been the devil’s purpose? We must stop listening to rhetoric and start
looking at actions, or fruit (Mt 7:16, 20).
Fruit is the result of actions, and actions are a true indicator of intent.
Jeremiah 17:10, “I the LORD search the heart,
I try the reins, even to give every man according
to his ways, and according to the fruit of
his doings.” Lastly, the author realizes that specific discussions of each
point in this paper could be discussed endlessly with much depth. Therefore, the
points are addressed very generally as to the truth they represent.
America
The
nation of
America
was born out of rebellion! (Rm 13:1-2) – It broke away from the English empire by force of
will. The very foundation of
America
is rebellion. The successful rebellion against
England
exalted the colony to an official nation.
Upon this foundation a country was developed that has exalted itself to
lead all the nations of the earth, and even has a claim upon the moon. Is there
any nation so prideful in all the earth? You needn’t suppose, just ask any
American and they will tell you. All the reasons that one may offer as
justification for this rebellion are based upon the “seeking of self.”
Americans proudly proclaim that they were seeking freedom. Freedom is
simply the less restrained ability for man to seek his “own way” – liberty
to seek “your will.” This is “doing what is right in your own eyes9”
with less restraint. This is “fulfilling your dreams” or the “imaginations
of your own heart10” with less
resistance. In other words, it might be similarly said, that man transgressed
God’s will in
Eden
to seek his “freedom” from God. After all,
God ruled man without self being represented. The word “freedom” makes
rebellion seem more palatable (agreeable,
acceptable, satisfactory, noble). Many will say the freedom obtained was so
that we could worship God without persecution. Where is that granted in God’s
Word14? Doesn’t the one who is
sanctified (set apart) and walking by
faith (in the Spirit) always suffer
persecution from the majority who are opposed to God (in
the flesh, Pv 29:27)? To be accepted by those of the flesh, you must stifle
(suppress, restrain, smother, suffocate,
hold back) the Word of God and its manifestation in your life. This is known
as compromise! This is extinguishing your light and testimony or witness – to
be as salt without taste (no saltiness, Mt
8:17
, Mk
9:50
, Lk
14:34
). This is to die to the things of the Spirit so
the flesh can find comfort. If you do not understand this, then perhaps
compromise has weakened your testimony (witness)
and dimmed your light such that you are ineffective. We must realize that a
“true believer” walks the path of the cross in following His Lord Jesus. To
carry a cross is to be a great reproach for all to see. Did not Jesus suffer the
ridicule (mocking, belittling, criticism)
of others? Are we not to follow in Jesus’ steps? Jesus learned obedience
through His suffering and so will we (Heb
5:8-9). Psalm 34:19, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the
LORD delivereth him out of them all.” Consider Paul’s sufferings (2
Cor
11:23
-28).
What about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Daniel
Chapter Three)? However, the author will add that freedom is also the
ability to religiously seek your “own way” as men often do (with
façade of belief). Freedom is obtained when one is no longer subject to (coming
out from) the rule and authority that had been in place. Now recall that man
(in the garden of Eden and since)
transgressed the will and authority of his Creator (God) so that he could be his own authority (ye shall be as gods, Gen 3:5) and seek his “own way” – to be
Free of divine restrictions. The devil’s lie in tempting man was that man
could do this and not die (ye shall not
surely die, Gen 3:4). The truth turned out to be quite different. God is
sovereign and true to His Word and man really did (and
does) die as a result of violating the Lord’s command. Man still seeks his
“own path” but dies as a result (all
die physically). The reality of death confirmed the truth of God’s Word (thou shalt surely die) and exposed the lie of the devil (ye
shall not surely die). The truly wise man will now consider the
equivalent (corresponding) truth of
the two established paths through life: willful (voluntary) surrender and obedience to God (faith) verses seeking your own way (unbelief). Since the devil’s lie was just that, then the fruit of
the lie (Pv
12:22
), which is seeking your “own way” is also
incorrect; and living in such a manner will result in eternal death (the
second death). Eating the devil’s fruit leads to death. The fruit of the
forbidden tree may have been pleasant to the eyes, but it was poison. However,
man is now willing to “die” for his freedom, which is his own path (the poison fruit). In
America
we are told that “freedom is not free.” This
is so true. Man’s freedom cost him his relationship with God, a lifetime of
toil (Job 14:1), and then death.
Man’s freedom also cost the death of God’s Son, Jesus – and there is no
greater cost than that. We are told that our freedom in
America
was secured by the blood of our brave soldiers
who were injured and died for us. We are also told that “
America
is home of the free and the brave.” Being
brave is presumed to be standing up for and defending your “own way” of life
or chosen path. This American blood was given so that we could live in freedom
and seek the American way – “to walk in our own ways.” BUT WAIT: God’s
Word says that Jesus died and spilt His blood for us such that through Him we
could walk in “God’s way” – that narrow path. Christ’s blood was shed
such that we could renounce our rebellious freedom and return to God and submit
to the Lord’s authority.
America
parallels what happened in
Eden
and ever since in a stunning manner. Can any of
this be ignored or trivialized away? Go ahead religious man consider all your
thoughts to justify the unpardonable (unjustifiable,
indefensible, inexcusable, reprehensible) – but read on. Wouldn’t we
expect to see the fallen nature of man magnified in a collective group (i.e.
nation) who have their father’s nature (devil,
Jn
8:44
)? The question to be considered is: are you going to be a part of this
beast or rather sanctified (set apart)
through a walk of truth (faith) in
Christ (Jn
17:19
, Acts
26:18, Rm
15:16
)? We cannot walk in “our way” and also walk
in “God’s way“ (Mt
6:24
, Lk
16:13
). Most people think that you can do just that and this is how they live
their lives. The religious man will even tell us that God endorses “our way”
or “path” (Pv
17:15
, 24:24).
Religious men will also tell us that God blesses this nation in it’s
independence and freedom; concepts that undermine submission to authority (1 Thess
5:21
). To live your life as independent and free is
to never grasp the truth and reality (or
walk therein) of surrender, sacrifice, meekness, servitude and obedience.
Oh, you may give a little if the flesh is not denied. This is to walk in a way
that does not line up with God’s nature and expectations. This is a very
negative object lesson for one seeking God. Jesus is our example to follow and
conform to – to be in His likeness and image (
Col
3:10
). Jesus came as a servant that obeyed the Father unto death – totally
living within God’s will. Philippians 2:7-8, “But made himself of no
reputation, and took upon him the form of a
servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as
a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient
unto death, even the death of the cross.” We are to “follow” Christ
– in His steps. Did Jesus ever seek His freedom or independence (recall
the temptations)? Did Jesus ever seek freedom from persecution by the Jews (extremely
religious men, I might add)? Did Jesus want to just quietly worship the
Father in His own way – to follow His own conscious, free of restraint? Did
Jesus counsel the Jews to take up arms and war against
Rome
? The answers to these questions are easily found
in the gospels - they should be read and taken to heart. So, is the author
suggesting
America
come back under the authority of
England
? The answer is no, for those who are missing the
point. Look at the Spiritual equivalent. The author is saying to forsake your
“way” and be reconciled with God through His “Way.” Your “way” is an
ongoing rebellion that will be put down and will not be established as a dual
reality throughout eternity.
America
has always been known for rebellion (independence),
pursuit of self, and pride. The ideals (principles)
of
America
are blashpemy15
to God. To blaspheme is to dishonor God and to claim for one’s self the
attributes of God – an irreverent act or attitude (to disregard God). One of God’s sovereign attributes is to be able
to determine the course or “path” of His creation; but the creation now says
it will determine it’s own “path” in seeking it’s freedom. Jesus said that blasphemies proceed out of the heart of a man and this
defiles the man (Mt
15:19
-20). Americans have definitely taken freedom to heart. Those who follow
Christ are to be led of His Spirit (Rm
8:14
). Matthew
12:31
, “Wherefore I say
unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the
blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men (also
Mk
3:29
).” When we decide to walk in our “own way” we are claiming the
attribute of the Spirit (to lead). We
will surely go a different direction (opposite
from Christ is antichrist, to oppose or be against). God is to be exalted in
heaven and on earth (right now, not at
some later date).
America
’s rebellious self seeking and prideful
exaltations dishonor God in every way. Americans ascribe (attribute) the blood of their patriots to the salvation of their
freedom which allows Americans to seek their “own way” and this dishonors
Christ. Christ came and shed His blood to free you from the sin which results
from seeking “your way.” Can you see the
opposites? The freedom
America
offers is to seek self (maybe
religiously). The freedom Christ brings is death to self so as to be found
complete in God (Mk
8:35
). One reflects the nature of Satan and his “Lie,” but the truth is
obscured.
America
is known for it’s pride. The citizens are
“proud to be Americans.” They are constantly told that
America
is the greatest nation on the face of the earth
(exaltation, arrogance). Pride is what
compels and motivates one to rise above another, and is certainly opposite of
humbleness and submission. Proverb 16:5, “Every one that is proud in heart is
an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be
unpunished.” AND Proverb 21:4, “An high look,
and a proud heart, and the plowing of the
wicked, is sin.” God says that He will not suffer those with high looks
and proud hearts (Ps101:5, 119:21).
Consider the pride and glory of
America
: Men have looked upon and been fascinated with
the moon since creation (some have
worshipped it).
America
has been to the moon (set foot upon) several times (in
craft named for Roman gods) and has raised a flag upon the moon’s surface.
The raising of a flag has always denoted a claim of ownership. No other nation
could perform such a feat (one tried, Dan
12:4) – “Let us reach into heaven and make us a name” (tower of
Babel
, Gen 11:4)
– how arrogant. God placed man upon the earth and Christ is coming back to the
earth (His will, Rev 1:7). However,
Americans talk of a permanent presence outside of the earth, moon bases and
trips to Mars. Such pride! Such seeking of one’s “own way.” This is an
indicator that Christ will return soon. So what shall be said of
America
? Ezekiel
7:10
, “Behold the day, behold, it is come: the
morning is gone forth; the rod (sceptres
of them that bear rule, Ez
19:11
, 14) hath blossomed, pride hath budded.”
The great American slogan says, “God bless
America
.” Do you really imagine that God will bless a
nation that completely mirrors the rebellion that transpired in the garden of
Eden and the wickedness of man in general? A nation known for rebellion, pride,
blasphemy, and freedom for self. Americans surely want God’s blessings, they
feel they deserve them. We are told that
America
is a Christian nation or at least was founded
upon Christian principles. Most will say,
America
is “one nation under God.” This means that
the nation is submitted to God in doing His will. Can you see the blasphemy of
these statements? It would be more accurate to say, “one nation exalting
itself above God.” Do you really think that those individuals who embrace and
live such ideals will go to be with God eternally? Did God tolerate such
behavior in Lucifer (He was cast out, Rev
12:9)? Do you suppose that Christ’s shed blood gives you covering to walk
in such ways (Gal
2:17
)? What is God to do with all those corrupted
spirits that return to Him (Eccl 12:7)? – They have the nature of the devil and must be cast
away - should the rebellion continue throughout eternity?
The
people of
America
are taught from a young age the concepts and
principles of freedom. Americans are taught that they are not ruled by a monarch
(sovereign), but rather by themselves.
This concept is known as democracy (government
by the people and for the people). After all, man rebelled against God to
seek self; and this concept is also such a part of the American makeup and life.
Since
America
is ruled by the people, then their allegiance is
to SELF. Children are taught to pledge allegiance to the American flag (with
their right hand of authority over their heart). The flag represents all the
ideals that this country is based upon. This is the standard and emblem – the
symbol. The flag is considered sacred (hallowed,
revered, sanctified, blessed) and there are many rules regarding it’s use,
placement and handling. The flag is proudly displayed above all others and
saluted. There is no doubt that it is worshipped. In scripture, we are told of a
king (Nebuchadnezzar) who set up an
image that everyone was required to worship at the sound of the music (Daniel
Chapter Three). In
America
, at the sound of the music (Star Spangled Banner), the citizens are required to worship its
image which has been set up (flag, symbol
of its ideals). Christian parents are teaching their children to put their
trust, loyalty and faith in a nation (false
god, for their provision and welfare) that undermines the true God (seated
itself in the place of). The flag of the American woman flies over the seven
continents of the earth and she looks down upon them (sitteth
upon,
Rev 17:15
) from a grid of complex satellites in multiple
orbits around the earth (Rev 17:9).
America
(and hence
the world) is ruled from a city known as
Washington
DC
(unique in
America
and the
world) – reigning over the kings of
the earth (
Rev 17:18
). Her great invincible armadas (aircraft carrier groups, submarines) roam the seven seas from ports
all over the world to ensure her advantage (Rev
17:1). She sits as a queen and proclaims, “I am, and none else
beside me, and I shall see no sorrow” (Is
47:8-9, Rev 18:7). Special songs of “praise” are also sung to
America
(My Country Tis of Thee, Star
Spangled Banner) to honor it’s ideals. Americans are told to give their
total allegiance (loyalty) to this
country (and thus self) and to die if
necessary to protect it. BUT WAIT: We are suppose to give all allegiance to God
alone – our heart, mind, soul and strength (Mk
12:30
). Again, you cannot serve two masters. You
cannot be walking in “your path” or “man’s path” and also be walking
in “God’s path.” You cannot be in the darkness, yet be in the light. You
cannot have faith, yet walk by the flesh (unbelief).
You cannot have God’s nature which hates pride, arrogance, self seeking,
blasphemy, and rebellion; and yet identify with and be participant in these very
things. You cannot have dual loyalties with things that oppose one another. You
cannot be filled with God’s Spirit and also seek the things of the flesh (Gal
5:16
-17).
You cannot have the nature of a goat, yet follow as a sheep. It can’t be done!
To be a weed (tare) is to abandon any
hope of ever producing any usable fruit (wheat).
Americans do not want to be ruled over in the sense of having a king or monarch.
BUT WAIT: Jesus Christ is the King of kings (1 Tim
6:12
-16,
Rev 17:14
,
19:16
). Jesus is also the God of gods (Josh
22:22
, Ps 136:2, Dan
2:47
). Deuteronomy 10:17, “For the LORD
your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a
terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward.” Jesus must rule
sovereignly over our lives now on earth and eternally. We obey Jesus’ commands16
and walk in His light17. Jesus is also
the Head18 of His body, the church.
The object lessons taught in American life are opposed to the principles of God.
Since Americans do not like the thought of a king, they have set up a form of
government that allows for self representation. The approach appoints leaders
who are elected for a period of time by the people to represent the people in
“the way” or “path” they want to walk. The people “decide for
themselves” who will direct the affairs of the nation such that their
“way” is not impinged upon (encroached,
intruded). If they do not get what they want, then they replace the leaders
accordingly. Political parties and special interest groups have been developed
to lobby for the desires of many. This political process is a continual give and
take and is very corrupted with gifts and favors. Exodus 23:8, “And thou shalt
take no gift: for the gift blindeth the
wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.” “Wise” and
“righteous” are words that are not generally attributed to those involved in
this political process. In order to decide for “themselves” who will lead
this country, Americans are given something considered very sacred, known as a
vote. The right to vote is considered a great privilege and allows one to voice
one’s opinion (in a concrete way)
concerning who represents “their” interest. Candidates sway the voters in
their favor by promising “things” to an audience with attentive ears. Does
anyone believe that God’s rule in the heavens is democratic? Does anyone think
that God will yield to “their way” (perhaps
through a vote) throughout eternity? Does anyone think God will play give
and take with the way you lived your life? Then why do those who say they are
called by His Name live and embrace such ideals on earth? God’s
glory will not be diminished one little bit with or without you. That statement
may damage your “pride,” but you best see the wisdom and realize your humble
dependence upon the truly righteous God. Religious man has also become very
involved in this political process to ensure that his “ways” are also
represented. They want the rules of the land to agree with their interpretations
of conduct and they desire to legislate morality such that all are forced to
walk what they consider to be the narrow path; or more importantly that no one
infringes upon their doing so in their way – which is presumed to be God’s
way. It doesn’t really matter to them whether or not one chooses to follow
Christ, they will drive them like goats. Of course this is ridiculous because
Christ knows who are His (Jn 10:3, 2 Tim
2:19
) and knows the intent of one’s heart (Heb
4:12
) – including the heart of the religious man. These type of religious men
are forging the path, for God of course, rather than “following” on the path
which was laid by Jesus Christ – big difference! Our duty is just to submit (yield,
surrender) and obey the Lord’s Word and leading – that’s all (Eccl
12:13
)! In order to do this, it is just a given that we must KNOW Jesus (Jn
10:4, 14, 27). Please consider the depth of the word “know.” This means
you read, understand and apply (live)
His Words – you obey. You must walk daily in Christ (at
His direction) just as He walked and then you will truly relate to the
things Jesus did and felt. You communicate in prayer and Christ responds by
speaking to your heart. You are in Christ and He is in you19.
These religious men simply have not affected the hearts of others (or
their own) through their way (rather
than “God’s way”) and now seek the aide of the state (not
Christ or His Spirit) to religiously do things “their way” so they can
continue to lead. Perhaps they seek the state because they are void of the
Spirit? Can the blind avoid a ditch when led about by the blind (Mt
15:14
)? Our strength is through our weakness (in self) and humbleness (2 Cor
12:9-10). Our hope is not to be found in self or the world, but only in
Christ. Look to Jesus as your example: Did Christ ever lobby the Roman
government for religious freedom? Did Jesus trust in the Father for all things
or did He seek and trust in Caesar? Did Jesus answer to God or the High Priest?
Did Christ’s Words come from God or religious training? Did God supply
Jesus’ needs or did synagogue committees or governments? Was Christ employed
by a religious institution?
Some
will protest and insist that the freedom obtained was to worship God without
persecution,14 of which persecution
they should not have to partake. Many adhere to the notion that
America
is a Christian nation and that the hard fought
for freedom which was obtained was to worship God in a manner of one’s
“own” conscious without governmental restrictions. This is certainly what is
taught to some degree or another.
America
is looked upon as the “defender of the
faith.” If
America
is so Christian, has such a Christian history
and is so defensive of the faith, then why is this country so decadent (depraved,
self indulgent, immoral, materialistic, sensual, violent) and un-Christ
like? The fruit is just plain rotten – do you have eyes to see? If you can’t
see that then you must be blind with no discernment. Well, was
America
or her brave patriots “crucified for you” (1
Cor
1:11
-13)?
Did
America
provide propitiation (appeasing wrath and providing favor, atonement) for your
transgressions and reconcile you back to God (with her freedom)? Is your salvation found in this religious freedom
or in Jesus Christ? Was
America
appointed as a mediator between you and Christ (Eph
2:18
,
3:12
)? Is
America
more worthy to follow (give your heart to)? We are told that when we follow Christ that we
will be hated of all nations for His name’s sake (Mt 24:9). There will be trouble: 2 Timothy 3:12, “Yea, and all
that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” Shall we not
drink of whatever cup our Father gives us? – and declare, thy will be done. To
seek comfort from the persecutions that will surely come is to walk an easier
and broader path. Oh religious man, you cannot redefine the straight and narrow
path to your liking and expect to remain on it. The control is not in our hands!
The flesh hates that statement – it wants control. Our faith bypasses the
flesh and realizes that all authority and power is in the Lord’s hands and
that Christ is our hope and trust. The one who truly follows does not set the
path, coarse or agenda. They just follow and rely on God’s grace20
(God given ability resultant from the
Lord’s working in your heart that manifest outwardly in your actions) to
see them through the obstacles along the way and be complete all the way to the
end of the path. Isn’t God faithful to His Word? The devil said God lied and
that “ye shall not surely die.” Well, you do die. God is true and faithful.
Many a religious man seeks his path and sees no need for deliverance – after
all they represent God and attend church (religiously,
Jer
23:11
). Jesus once told a group of religious men who believed on Him (Jn
8:31
) that He would set them free (Jn
8:36
). They didn’t consider themselves under any
bondage and didn’t see the need for freedom. Jesus tried to tell them that
they were servants to sin (Jn
8:34
). They continued to argue, so Jesus told them quite bluntly: John 8:44,
“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts
of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode
not in the truth, because there is no truth
in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh
of his own: for he is a liar, and the father
of it.” This sounds harsh if you do not understand the meaning. Jesus was
saying that the devil is the father of “The Lie” (and
all others) which proposed you could violate God’s will and yet live; and
that you could be as gods and seek your own way. Jesus was telling them that
when Satan spoke this lie, he was speaking of what he had done (he
first transgressed God’s will and now seeks his own will). Christ was
further stating that this lie kills because it has brought death to all men (therefore
the devil is a murderer). Jesus was saying that they had the devil’s
nature in that they seek their own way and thereby sin. Christ was telling them
that they were being driven by their lusts to seek their own way which was
contrary to God. Satan did not abide in the truth, where he once was, but rather
chose his own way in trying to raise his throne above the stars of God and be
like the most High. Jesus is saying that we must be delivered from this lie,
this nature, or we will die in our sins (Jn
8:24
). Jesus said that we must do the will of God (Mt
7:21
-23).
Man consistently does the will of the devil (Pv
4:14
-15).
The rebellion continues. This is how you will know a false prophet or leader –
if their messages allow you, in any way, to stay in the rebellion (
Col
2:8).
Please consider the wisdom of that statement carefully, you potentially have
much to lose (Jer
23:32
). Jeremiah 23:17, “They say still unto
them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they
say unto every one that walketh
after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.” In
other words, they reinforce the devil’s “lie” and say you can walk in
“your own way” and not die! If their messages are wrong (the
product of the lie), then it doesn’t matter if they are all saying the
same thing, lies are lies, and wrong is wrong. Until you cast away your
transgressions, there can be no new heart and new spirit (Ez
18:30
-31).
Jeremiah
23:22
, “But if they had stood in my counsel,
and had caused my people to hear my words,
then they should have turned them from their
evil way, and from the evil of their doings.”
Religious man makes great professions of Jesus and they do many religious
things, but do they seek this deliverance from their “own way?” Do they walk
with Christ or contrary? Do words and actions agree? – walk the talk!
America
was explored and settled by men representing European countries (
Spain
,
Portugal
,
France
and
England
) that had a lust for adventure. Initially they
were after gold, silver, spices and other commodities; and later, land and
resources. These countries acquired or retained attributes from the fallen
Roman empire
.
America
is now what
Rome
was (militarily,
economically, religiously, judicially, legislatively, infrastructure, love of
violence, citizenship, etc.). There was a transference of Roman
infrastructure and culture to the new world (i.e.
America
).
America
is the fourth (Dan
7:3) and last great kingdom to rise upon the earth and is diverse from all
others (Dan
2:32
-41, 7:3-7,
17, 19, 23). This kingdom has definite
elements of the previous three (leopard,
bear and lion, compare Dan 7:4-7 with Rev 13:2). The men who settled
America
were known as pioneers (one who adventures into unexplored or unclaimed territory to settle).
Most of these folks were self-sufficient (opposite
of broken and humble) and relied on “their” ingenuity and skills. These
men were driven by self to improve their circumstances. Some would say, “God
helps those who help themselves,” but this phrase is not in the Bible or of
God. God helps those who are meek and who trust and obey Him. Psalm 25:9, “The
meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.” God helps
those who have no confidence in the SELF (the
flesh, Php 3:3). This self
sufficient, prideful, innovative spirit has exalted this nation to lead (rule)
the world. Americans are taught that this country is where one can realize
one’s hopes and dreams. This is still the anticipation of immigrants today.
One can truly seek one’s “own way” in this land – make your own path.
Based upon this foundation,
America
has developed into a very materialistic (lustful
desire for possessions, worldly, selfish, money-oriented, covetousness)
society – self indulgent.
America
actually consumes most of the world’s
resources – it is the great importer (Rev
17:2, 18:3, 7, 9-16). She is full of the fruits which her soul has lusted
after (
Rev 18:14
).
America
looks after her interest above all. The one
thing most people covet or lust after mainly is money – an idol set before God
(1 Tim
6:10
). All of the
American money states: “In God we trust.” Is this not blasphemous? How does
America
trust in God – for blessings to make God her
servant? Where are the actions that back up (verify
the intent of) the words? The citizens, through their elected
representatives, have taken God out of the public format so as not to offend the
majority who are seeking self and loving the darkness (Democracies are ruled by majorities, Mt 10:32-33, Lk 12:8-9).
Are those who embrace
America
’s ideals trusting in God (they are blind and deceived)? It would be much more truthful to
print, “In money we trust.” The greatest factor that led to the sins of
Sodom
was “freedom” to pursue the flesh. Ezekiel
16:49, “Behold, this was the iniquity of
thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of
bread, and abundance of idleness
was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand (help overcome) of the poor and needy (not make dependent in bondage).” They were haughty (snooty,
puffed-up, arrogant) and committed abomination before God (Ez
16:50). The idle soul is the devil’s workshop – this gives one place to
seek the pleasures of the flesh (the lusts
of the heart). Too much time, a full stomach and a desire to seek one’s
own will is a bad combination. We are told in scripture: 1 John 2:15-17, “Love
not the world21, neither the things
that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not
in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the
world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he
that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” This verse makes God’s
position very clear on the matter. If you do not take this serious then
you are only exalting your opinions above the most High. Jesus also added: Luke
12:15, “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a
man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
Americans are consumed with a lust for possessions – the good life. Psalm
10:3, “For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the
covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.” The
cares of this world (Php 3:19);
pleasures of this life; deceitfulness of riches; and lusts of other things are
like weeds that choke the very eternal life out of one. These things blind,
deceive and engender (bring about)
spiritual and physical (debt, addictions)
bondages. These cares and pleasures will be a great snare (Lk
21:34
-35).
The religious men have told us over and over that God has blessed this nation
– God bless
America
. We must really consider the validity of this
statement. We live in a very flesh oriented society that constantly tempts one
with things that oppose God (from a
multitude of sources such as television - overload). Most have the time and
resources to indulge themselves. Is this a blessing? Stop thinking temporal and
think eternal. Is living in a very free and loose society a good thing, a
blessing? What seems good to the flesh will inevitably be a curse for the
spirit. If the flesh is satisfied (comfortable)
then the spirit must be lacking – and this is what we are seeing. Many
religious men equate God’s blessings to materialistic things such as a
good job, nice home, wealth, and possessions. How contrary to God’s Word!
Religious men walk their talk in that they build great monuments, for God of
course. These buildings are complete with all the worldly amenities, even
including gymnasiums, convention style kitchens, banquet rooms, and vast youth
facilities, theaters, etc. Are not these eminent (prominent, distinguished, important) high places (Ez
16:24
, 31, 39)?
Colossians 3:2-3, “Set your affection on things above, not on things on
the earth. For ye are dead, and your
life is hid with Christ in God.”
Israel
was led of God, but constantly rebelled. Israel was told consistently not to
participate in the evils of the nations around them, but they constantly
disobeyed. God likened them to a harlot. Because
Israel
turned from God to the world, the Lord said she
was an imperious (domineering, commanding,
arrogant, haughty, overbearing, bossy) whorish woman (Ez
16:30
). They were constantly unfaithful to God in
order to seek the dainties (choice
morsels, pleasures, things) of the world. We have also been given the same
warnings. 1 Corinthians 6:15-16, “Know ye not that your bodies are the members
of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of
an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he
which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one
flesh.” Proverbs 2:18-19, “For her house inclineth unto death, and her
paths unto the dead. None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold
of the paths of life.” Most religious men who profess Christ are not much
different from the world around them – be honest. They are a reflection of the
world and are in it’s image. There are churches on every corner, but look at
the society. A harlot is a phony when it comes to commitment. A harlot professes
love for one while she has her eyes on another. Therefore, her profession is
hollow and worthless because of her actions – she is false. Consider
carefully: Proverb 30:20, “Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth,
and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.” We discussed how the religious have
aligned themselves with the government (politics)
to legislate “their way.” The professed church (religiosity of man) has lived in security, protected by law, and has
even enjoyed special tax status (this is a
relationship). In return, the religious institutions have been the biggest
patriotic supporters of America. We have also discussed how many who profess
Christ have made themselves harlots with the world through participation in its
wickedness (doctrines of Balaam, 2 Pt
2:14-15, Rev 2:14). Therefore, we can conclude that this harlot (women)
rides the beast (Babylon, America).
The body of Christ is represented as the “bride” in scripture. The false
religion mixed with worldliness represents the “harlot” in scripture. This
false religion represents all of man’s religious efforts (man’s
way) and idolatry through the ages and cultures (since Eden), but particularly tries to convey a twisted gospel (another
Jesus). This false gospel is based upon the devil’s “lie” and allows
for the flesh (self). This idolatry and seeking of other gods (including
self, your way) is spiritual fornication (profess
Christ while courting the devil). The bride is led of the Spirit, seeks
Christ’s will, and says: “Father, glorify thy name.” The harlot
seeks her own and wants to save her flesh, and says: “Father glorify my
name” (bless me, love me, serve me,
exalt me). The bride wears white, which is simple, unpretentious and
innocent (Rev 19:7-9) representing
cleanliness, purity and outward righteousness (Zech
3:1-7). She wears the Father’s righteous nature which manifests in her
character (clothed with a robe of
righteousness, Is 61:10). Let us examine how the harlot religious system is
arrayed: Revelation 17:3-5, “So he carried me away in the spirit into the
wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet
coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten
horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with
gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of
abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER
OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” The harlot (false
religious) wears purple and scarlet colors and is decked with gold and
precious stones and pearls, (the dainties
of the world, Ps 141:4). Babylon desires to deck herself with the glory and
things of this world (Hos 2:13, Nahum
3:4). She seeks self satisfaction, yet assumes she is the image of God. She
has lived deliciously and lusted after the good things of the world (Rev 18:7, 14). Babylon is a mystery to many people, because she
claims to follow Jesus. Can’t you just hear her say, “you can’t out-sin
God?” Or God loves and accepts you no matter what you do! – such filthiness.
We must ask ourselves: Do we reflect Christ or the world in our thoughts, deeds,
actions, likes, and dislikes? – Where is the majority of your time spent? This
is a true indicator – don’t be self deceived or fooled. Don’t compare
yourself to others. Most are on the broad path seeking all that glitters. What
if Noah had compared himself to others (everybody’s doing it)? Compare
yourself to God’s Word. We are told: 2 Corinthians 6:17, “Wherefore come out
from among them, and be ye separate,
saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”
Followers of Christ are not to have the same ideals or nature as this beast.
These are the very ideals that are reflected in America (the
United States of Babylon). Revelation 18:4, “And I heard another voice
from heaven, saying, Come
out of her, my people, that
ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her
plagues.”
America
has been a nation of war. The justifications for these wars doesn’t really
matter, only the fact that this nation is a warring country and pursues war all
over the globe. This nation has been violent since its inception: revolutionary
wars, Indian wars, civil wars, regional wars, international/world wars, wars on
communism, space wars, war on terrorism, etc. America has assumed a self
appointed role as the world’s policeman. This is a nice way to say that
America is an aggressor exerting it’s will. This nation is dreadful and
terrible, and strong exceedingly;
and it has great iron teeth: it devours and brakes in pieces, and stamps the
residue with the feet of it (Dan 7:7).
Consider Iraq! Afganistan! America shall devour the whole earth (Dan 7:23) America’s military has always been presented to the
public in terms of being defensive. The expenditures for war preparation are
unrivaled in world history and go far beyond what is necessary. Please
consider carefully what is about to be said. Jesus said, John, 14:15, “If ye love
me, keep my commandments.”
1 John 5:3, “For this is the love
of God, that we keep his commandments:
and his commandments are not
grievous.” These commandments are worth repeating once again: Mark 12:30-31,
“And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy
soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first
commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater
than these.” Jesus took the Ten Commandments and condensed them into two. Upon
these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets (Mt 22:40) and these are more than all whole burnt offerings and
sacrifices (Mk 12:33-34). This means
that every thing God has ever required of man, as conveyed to man, through
commandments, prophets and Son, is to be found in these two commandments. The
first one says we totally surrender to God in love, humbleness and obedience.
The second says that we love our neighbors as ourselves (Mt 7:12). If we keep Jesus’ Word, we know we are in Him (1
Jn 2:5). One man asked Jesus who his neighbor was and Christ answered with
the story of the Good Samaritan (Lk
10:29-37). The Jews hated and despised Samaritans and it turns out that they
represented the neighbors (fellow man)
that this man should love. Now mankind, and Americans in particular, will always
justify hatred for their enemies (Lk 6:35).
Therefore, Jesus emphasized the point: Matthew 5:43-45, “Ye have heard that it
hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say
unto you, Love your enemies, bless them
that curse you, do good to them that hate
you, and pray for them which despitefully
use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your
Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the
good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” Notice how some tried
to bypass (find loophole) in the second commandment through the use of the term
“enemy.” Jesus said you are to “love” enemies if you want to be a child
of God; and couldn’t have been more specific and clear (Pv 25:21-22, Rm
12:20
). Luke 6:27-28, 32-33, “But I say unto you
which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that
curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. And as ye would that
men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise (the second commandment). For if ye love them which love
you, what thank have
ye? for sinners also love those that love
them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for
sinners also do even the same.” Whenever you talk to someone about enemies and
justification for hating them, it always boils down to loving those who love
you. What shall we say of our enemies? Job 31:15, “Did not he that made me in
the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?” Consider the case
of the American Civil War. Brother hated brother in a brutal war.
The religious men on both sides were sure that their side’s cause was right
and God was on their side. Both sides held religious services and prayed for
their troops, yet their very endorsement of such things (the war), violated Christ’s commandment (which they knew) – did that matter? Christians “voluntarily”
send their sons and daughters off to war today to fight for America. Jesus said,
if you love me (first commandment),
then keep the second commandment – does this matter? What do your actions say?
If you do not keep Christ’s Words then He is not in you and there is no
relationship (1 Jn 2:5). 1 John 2:9,
11, “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth
his brother, is in darkness even until now. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and
knoweth not whither he goeth, because that
darkness hath blinded his eyes.” Many will say: “But we are defending
our nation or selves.” Go back and ponder the verses you just read –
you’re seeking your way and are blinded by your own darkness. My “sentiment
(opinions mixed with strong feelings)”
will be above the most High. God’s way is not nullified with what seems
reasonable and justifiable to the flesh (make
the Word of God of none effect, Mk 7:13). No one goes off to war without
having hatred22 and unforgiveness in
their heart. How could you kill otherwise? 1 John 3:10, 15, “In this the
children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his
brother (we are all brothers going
back to Noah and ultimately back to Adam, family of man, brotherly love).
Whosoever hateth
his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” Those who follow
Christ must love and overcome evil with good (Rm 12:20-21). We must bless those who persecute and curse not (Rm
12:14). Jesus said we cannot seek revenge either (Mt
5:38
-42, Pv 24:29, 1 Pt 3:9).
Religious men greatly honor their veterans and have “prayer for the
troops.” Matthew 26:52, “Then said Jesus unto him,
Put up again thy sword into his
place: for all they that take the sword
shall perish
with the sword.” Some perish in the war, some perish “according to
their deeds23” at judgment. Does God
answer prayers that violate His declared will (Second Commandment)? Does God just understand your violations
religious man (bow to your sentiment)?
God said: Genesis 9:5-6, “And surely your blood of your lives will I require;
at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at
the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man.
Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image
of God made he man.” Oh religious man, go and pull out all of your biblical
arguments to “justify” your “way.” Continue to justify the hate of war
rather than the love of God; your only moving away from a truly loving God22
(Is 41:21). Many a religious man will
profess, “I love God” while waving their flags and endorsing America’s
violent actions. Consider: 1 John 4:20-21, “If
a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he
is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he
love God whom he hath not seen? And this
commandment have we from him, That he who
loveth God love his brother also.” Perhaps your reasoning is a bit self
centered: John 12:43, “For they loved the praise of men more than the praise
of God.” Many religious men will justify many things because they do not want
to suffer reproach for Christ (reproach
goes against the flesh). Every country that enters into war considers God to
be on their side. This is certainly true of those nations that America wars with
today. “But, America is a Christian nation and we are going to help those poor
oppressed people.” Are we delivering the “good news” from our war planes.
Do the soldiers love their enemies? In God we trust? Is America so Christ like?
Man (in the flesh) sees those who go off to war to fight for this nation
as heros. God sees those who refuse to go as heros. These lay their lives down (and
incur the wrath of society, loss of reputation) for another (those
who will not perish as a result of them not supporting or participating in the
war). 1 John 3:16, “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid
down his life for us: and we ought to lay down
our lives for the brethren.” This verse is the counterpart to John 3:16.
Love is giving and sacrifice for another. Love denies the flesh (even the strong desire for self preservation) to fulfill God’s
purposes. Your hate will reveal your heart. Proverb 16:7, “When a man’s ways
please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” In
conclusion: 1 John 3:23-24, “And this is his commandment, That we should
believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us
commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in
him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given
us.” Jesus commands that we love one another! Will you rise above the most
High in your hatred? OR Will you keep Christ’s commandments and be found in
Him? Jesus (as a man) never fought in
wars nor endorsed them. Will you abide in Christ and walk as He walked (1
Jn 2:6) or will you walk your “own way?” Love your enemies and do good
and great shall be your reward (Lk
6:35
) – forgive and ye shall be forgiven (Lk
6:37
).
We
are told that America is the greatest nation on earth. America is free and
everyone desires this freedom to seek their materialistic (money-oriented,
worldly, self centered) dreams to a full conclusion (if the flesh can ever be satisfied and content). How has this
freedom affected the lives of the nation’s citizens? How has this desire to do
what “I” want to do, and to realize “my” dreams played out in society?
Aside from all the divorce, addictions (alcohol,
smoking, drugs, pornography),
homosexuality, crime, greed, love of violence, debt, sensuality, vices and
glorification of every sin imaginable through television24
programming and the movie industry; only one example will be addressed.
This example is the sacrifice of innocents on the alter of convienience (seeking
of self – freedom – a woman’s right). This example concerns a
woman’s “freedom” of choice (supported
by most men). A baby is probably the purest form of man upon this earth.
Christian couples generally try to regulate being fruitful and multiplying so
that their offspring fit into “their” plans for “their” lives as they
decide. Occasionally the unthinkable happens, an unplanned child is formed
in the womb. Sometimes this happens through fornication or adultery as one seeks
one’s pleasures. Worse, sometimes children through fornication are having
children. This is what happens in a very loose society when “professing”
Christians live as the world. Children learn from what their parents allow (their
example, television, movie rentals, lustful music, etc.). To sow to the
world and the flesh is to reap the fruits of the same (Gal
6:7-8). Sometimes married couples just do not want to raise another child
– a great inconvenience. Rebellious
Israel
and the pagans offered their own children to
Molech25 (sacrificed)
to receive blessings and things. Men and
women have truly degenerated to their lowest level when they will overcome their
God given parental instinct and kill their own child. This is the saddest thing
of all, “some” in the religious world who profess belief in Christ, offer
their children up as sacrifices (abortion)
to pursue their own selfish ambitions (blessing
and things, Ez 23:39). Others who “profess Christ” will defend those
who do this. The babies (children) are
literally ripped out of the womb like some unwanted cancerous growth. This is
mostly considered to be a private matter in many religious circles – shame and
woe to you oh religious ones. The children of
Israel
would sacrifice their children to idols and then
come to worship God on the same day (Ez
23:39
). How savage and evil, how unloving and ungodly, yet killing of innocents
(abortion) is protected as the law
of the land in
America
. Land of the free? Free to decide life and death
as a god (be as gods, Gen 3:5)? I do
not know whether to cry or be sick at my stomach. Those who cry out against the
widespread practice of abortion are the most likely to suffer from America’s
laws (not those who have the abortions).
Psalm 106:37, “Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto
devils.” Certainly the ones performing the abortions are devils, but the
babies are being sacrificed in order to pursue the devil’s “lie” to seek
SELF (for personal benefit). The
children of Israel killed (sacrificed)
their children and then came to worship God – an abomination (Ez 23:39). Have those who killed their children renounced God or do
they still have a form of worship? The great Christian nation of America has
sacrificed “millions” of innocent children so others can pursue their
“freedom” (of choice, their way)
and worship God (the tears must flow).
This is where your freedom will take you – to the wicked imaginations of your
own heart (Pv 6:16-18). Open your eyes
– this is where the freedom that you suppose leads to! Did you know that more
children (babies) have had their blood
sacrificed for this nation’s freedom (ability
to lust after the things of self) than all of America’s brave patriots?
Next time you are having patriotic services and flag waving at your religious
institution think about that. It’s the babies you should be saluting, because
they had their lives taken for this beast’s ideals and laws. Can anyone with a
heart of compassion, a heart of love, hold back the tears? The mortality rate of
the soldiers in war is relatively low and they have a “fighting” chance of
survival. The mortality rate of the babies is about one hundred percent with
basically no chance of survival. When Israel sacrificed their children God said:
Jeremiah 7:31, “And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the
valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire;
which I commanded them not, neither came it into
my heart.” God changed the
name of Tophet to the valley of slaughter (Jer 7:32, 19:6). How does the word “slaughter” fit with
America’s word of “choice” – notice the difference in views (its like light and darkness). There will come a day of accounting,
Oh God is a God of righteous judgment (Jer
9:24). Burned in fire or ripped piece by piece from the womb, the child
always dies. One nation under God? In God we trust? How does one celebrate their
cherished freedom and turn such a blind eye? Oh religious one, do you
really think such “tremendous evil” will be ignored by a righteous God? How
can you be so deluded concerning the things all around you – have you just
become a part of it all? Do you just fit in? You are a part if you celebrate
such evil. How does one who professes Christ overlook so many things?
Many who wave their flags will say, “I don’t look (view) at it like that, I’m celebrating the good things of this
country.” What you are celebrating is your “own sentiment” and “delusion
of reality” while exalting your opinion above the most High. Gross darkness
covers this land. Through your sacrifices (slain
children), you have empowered the devil to rule over you. This country’s
willingness to kill their own children to seek self is incredibly telling of
their priorities. Yet no one feels they should have to lay down their life for
Christ (lifestyle or physical life)
– they are all going to just be wisked away (raptured)
to a God who will understand? America may be the ideal in the world (great
pause for concern), but whom do you serve? Do you bow your knee a bit in
front of that golden image (that red,
white and blue)? – just to fit in and not be noticed or be a
reproach to all those freedom lovers. Now consider what the Bible reveals
about where the nations of the world are headed – to assemble themselves to
fight against Christ at His Second Coming (Rev
16:14, 16, 17:14, 19:17-20). Rebellious man will fight against God Himself.
Do you think that all those weapons that you have been paying for all your life
will not be used?
America
has what is termed a national day of prayer. What are the leaders and peoples
praying for? More importantly, how has it manifested in the society? After a
terrorist attack on the World Trade Center there was a lot of talk of prayer.
There wasn’t much public talk of repentance. There certainly wasn’t any
evidence of repentance. Soon after the tragedy, a new world campaign was
launched against terrorism with bombings and invasions of other countries (America now occupies Babylon).
This is not evidence of repentance before God (fruits meet for repentance, Mt 3:8). This even goes beyond an eye
for and eye or a tooth for a tooth (Mt
5:38-39). Again, a nation dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly;
and it has great iron teeth: it devours and brakes in pieces, and stamps the
residue with the feet of it (Dan 7:7).
Let us look at an example of true repentance. The prophet Jonah was told to go
and preach to Nineveh, Jonah 1:2, “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and
cry against it; for their wickedness is come up
before me.” Jonah’s message to the city was to repent
or perish. The people of Nineveh believed God! Everyone from the greatest
to the least fasted (neither eating
nor drinking), they cried mightily unto
God, and everyone turned from their evil way and
violence. Jonah 3:10, “And God saw their works, that they turned from
their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do
unto them; and he did it not.” How would such a scenario fit into the national
day of prayer. The American leaders could make the repentance a reality – have
they? Notice that the people of Nineveh backed up their prayers with actions.
They humbled themselves, confessed their sin, and forsook
their evil. Jesus said: Luke 11:30, “For as Jonas was a sign unto the
Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation.” Jesus came to
call sinners to repentance (Lk 5:32).
Nineveh was a city-state ruled by a king. The king provided leadership. This
scenario is not possible for the nation of America. America is a fractured (not
unified at all) country where everyone does what is right in their own eyes
(Deut 12:8, Jdg 17:6, 21:25). Daniel 2:42-43, “And as the toes of
the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly
strong, and partly broken. And whereas
thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with
the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one
to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.” Babylon of old was known
as a melting pot of peoples. Babylon of today is known as a melting pot of
peoples. Since everyone is seeking their own way, there are many ideologies.
There are political parties, special interest groups and movements (women’s
rights, gay rights, environmental, counter-culture, gun ownership, religious,
youth movement, free speech, anti-war, animal rights, English only, right to
die, etc.). This is why the bumper stickers have the appeal, “united we
stand.” The religious world has probably fractured and split the most. There
are thousands of denominations, independents and sects. Those who claim to
represent Christ seem to get along least
among themselves – how incredibly sad! These are not like-minded26,
nor do they encourage27. They have
spread their division all over the world through their missionaries. What a
confusing mix of choices – and this is a very telling clue. 1 Corinthians
14:33, “For God is not the author of confusion,
but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” Is there peace in the
churches? With each other? Many are busy praying for their troops fighting in
wars. The woman rides the beast. The Holy
Spirit does not divide! – but man does! All these groups mingle, but do not
cleave. They can be strong and united if the cause is to their liking. A man is
coming who will unite (Jn 5:43). There
is no hope for the nation of America, she is marching toward her fate - its
sealed (Rev 18:17-18). Revelation 18:5, “For her
sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath
remembered her iniquities.” God is not blind that He cannot see. God sees28
all and all is recorded29. There is
great hope for individuals. Just like Nineveh, you can repent and forsake
your wickedness.
There
is no denying the truth, whether you accept it or not. America is a nation of
rebellion, pride, arrogance, blasphemy, idolatry, self seeking, war, murder -
sacrifice of babies, self indulgent & materialistic, sexual perversion, and
profanes the name of Christ (His gospel).
These are not generalizations. Christian nation? In God we trust? Defender of
the faith? Greatest nation on the face of the earth? One nation under God? God
bless America? Religious freedom? What has this religious freedom gained? The
constant wickedness spewed out of the television has corrupted the hearts and
blinded the eyes of this people. They all know the programming is evil, but
refuse to part with their idol. They fill their
hearts with wickedness and say they see. John (the author of the book of Revelation) saw the great Harlot and this
is what he said, “and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration” (Rev 17:6).
Babylon is evil, but incredibly seductive (just
as the television is incredibly wicked and opposed to God, yet very seductive).
Have you been seduced in your “love” for this harlot? How did God get
Israel’s attention? The answer is God’s four sore judgments (Jer 15:2-3, Ez 5:8-12,
6:10-14, 7:15, 14:21): the sword, famine, pestilence, and noisome beasts
leading to exile in Babylon (Jer 4:18,
5:13, 16:12-13). How will God get this people’s attention? The answer is
God’s four sore judgments: the sword, famine, pestilence, and noisome beasts
in Great Tribulation (Revelation chapter
Six, Jer 30:24). This is an act of God’s mercy. Just as in the days of
Israel, the false prophets are crying peace, when there will be no peace (Jer
23:21, 25-26, 30-32). They cry rapture, rapture, but tribulation is
coming. Jeremiah 23:16-17, 20, “Thus
saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that
prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they
speak a vision of their own heart, and not
out of the mouth of the LORD. They say still
unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they
say unto every one that walketh after the
imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you. The anger
of the LORD shall not return, until he have
executed, and till he have performed the
thoughts of his heart: in the latter days ye shall consider it perfectly (the
time we live). Psalm
9:20
, “Put them in fear, O LORD: that the nations
may know themselves to be but men. Selah.” Sodom and gomorrha were judged! 2
Peter 2:6, “And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned
them with an overthrow, making them an ensample
unto those that after should live ungodly,” The seven wicked nations that
occupied the Promised Land were judged! The wicked world of old was judged! 2
Peter 2:5, “And spared not the old world,
but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the
flood upon the world of the ungodly.” The wicked angels were judged! 2 Peter
2:4, “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to
hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto
judgment.” Israel, Judah and the surrounding nations were judged (Jer
25:14, 31-33)! America will be judged! Where will you be in this great
judgment, Oh freedom lover? Are you celebrating your love of country or grieving
and being vexed by all that goes on around you? God looks at one’s heart to
determine just that. 2 Peter 2:7-9, “And delivered just Lot, vexed with
the filthy conversation of the wicked: (For that righteous man dwelling among
them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous
soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) The Lord knoweth how to
deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of
judgment to be punished.” We should be greatly mourning!!!
This
paper could continue on at length, but all things must have an end and the point
has been firmly made. If you take offense at the things written, it may only
prove that your ideals have been questioned; that which is sacred in your life;
that which you worship. Just why did Jesus come? 1 John 3:8, “He that
committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil
sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son
of God was manifested, that he might destroy
the works of the devil.” What are the works of the devil? The fruits that
resulted from his “Lie.” These fruits are transgressions against God’s
will such that man could seek his own way (all
manner of sin results). This nature of rebellion must be crucified with
Christ Jesus or we are not His (Gal
6:14
). Romans 6:6, “Knowing this, that our old
man is crucified with him, that the body of
sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not
serve sin.” AND Galatians
2:20
, “I am
crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in
me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I
live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for
me.” AND Galatians
5:24
, “And they that are Christ’s have crucified
the flesh with the affections and lusts.”
He that is born of God “keepeth himself” that the devil touch him not (1 Jn
5:18
). Has your wisdom been corrupted by “your
way?”
America
is the beast. The beast’s nature is rebellion;
pride; self seeking (self indulgence);
blasphemy; murder; desecration; conquest; death; lies; culturally seductive and corrupting the earth; covetous; greedy;
given to pleasures; bondage (through debt);
controlling; and enthralled with her own beauty. Have you become comfortable
with the beast? The beast is composed of all the individuals that identify with
it and live it’s ideals. Do you proudly identify with
America
’s values? Which Independence Day do you
celebrate?
Independence
to continue to seek your way (freedom) and travel your path with maybe a religious “sheep
clothing” type covering (Mt
7:15
) OR independence from self and the ways of the fallen nature of man? Do
your opinions and sentiments exalt themselves above the Most High? Do you seek
independence from the devil’s “lie” so that you can have God’s nature
and enter in through Jesus (the strait
gate) and travel Christ’s narrow path as led by His Spirit? Is your
“freedom” to walk in the flesh or in the Spirit? Do you have faith or
unbelief – maybe religious unbelief? Do you seek the deliverance Jesus came to
offer? Are you one of the few who will follow Jesus, as He walked, in submission
and obedience to the Father (through
Christ)? Please consider: 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12, “And with all deceivableness
of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received
not the love of the truth, that they might be saved (turning
fully to God with a whole heart). And for this cause God shall send them
strong delusion, that they should believe a lie (the devil’s lie, seeking your way): That they all might be damned
who believed not the truth, but had pleasure
in unrighteousness (loved the
darkness, Jn
3:19
).” Ezekiel
11:21
, “But as for them whose heart walketh after
the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will recompense
their way upon their own heads, saith the Lord GOD.” The choice is yours. Many
will say, “how can anyone live such a life?” The answer is that you have a
willing heart and live one day at a time in faith trusting in God rather than
what your flesh will tell you. Each day is sufficient for the evil thereof (Mt
6:34, Pv 27:1). The flesh wants security into the future, but we must trust
in God for the present. There is no short quick repeated prayer to make things
right (Heb 4:2). You must sincerely
seek God with all your heart to repentance. Repentance is not complete without
actions – forsaking of wickedness and your way. Lamentations 3:40-41, “Let
us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. Let us lift up our heart
with our hands unto God in the heavens.” Seek Jesus for the Holy Spirit (Mt
3:11, Lk 3:16) and then start your journey down that narrow path walking in
faith. Your only redeeming value before God is your submission and obedience to
Him (you have nothing else to offer). The author sincerely prays for
God’s speed on your journey – may the Lord keep you (Psalm chap. 23, Php
3:12
). Concerning the rebellious: He that heareth let
him hear; he that forbeareth let him forbear (Ez
2:5, 7,
3:27
). Ephesians 6:24, “Grace be with all them that
love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.”
