In this analysis we will compare the Contemporary English Version (CEV) (1995 edition) to the King James Bible (KJ). K J V S. C E V Gen. 1:21 KJ: "And God created great WHALES, ..." CEV: "So God made the giant sea monsters ..." COMMENT: God makes sea monsters? Gen. 2:7 KJ: "... and man became a living SOUL." CEV: "... and the man started breathing." Comment: A MAJOR difference between man and beast is that man is the ONLY creature with a "SOUL". Gen. 6:8 KJ: "But Noah found GRACE in the eyes of the Lord." CEV: "But the Lord was pleased with Noah," COMMENT: Noah was a sinner like all of us. But, God's GRACE was extended in the Old Testament, too. The King James Bible gives God the glory. The CEV credits man. Oh, BTW, an amateur archeologist has found the remains of Noah's ark. I've seen their DVD and I believe it is real. Their web site is: http://www.wyattmuseum.com/noahsark.htm There are people today that are looking for the ark on Mount Ararat. But, check your King James Bible. In Genesis 8:4 it says "the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the MOUNTAINS (PLURAL) of Ararat". The amateur archeologist found the remains of Noah's ark 12 miles from Mt. Ararat within the MOUNTAINS of Ararat. The discovered ark is 1 inch off, that's right, 1 inch off, from 300 cubits (Gen. 6:15) in length. Gen. 22:8 KJ: "And Abraham said, My son, God will PROVIDE HIMSELF a lamb for a burnt offering: ..." CEV: "... Abraham answered, 'God will provide the lamb.'" Comment: It is true, as the CEV says, that God did provide the lamb. However, that is only part of the story! The CEV totally misses the DEEPER, and more AMAZING truth: GOD WAS the lamb! The KJ wording is perfect: "God will PROVIDE HIMSELF" (in the form of his only begotten son Jesus Christ) as the lamb. Gen. 24:47 KJ: "... and I put the EARRING UPON HER FACE, ..." CEV: "... I put the ring in her nose ..." COMMENT: The CEV put WHAT in her nose? Gen. 49:10 KJ: "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, ... until SHILOH come; and unto him [shall] the gathering of the people [be]." CEV: "... until nations obey you ..." COMMENT: "Shiloh" here refers to Christ as Peace Maker. The CEV robs him of his Messianic rule. Lev. 3:13 KJ: "... and the SONS OF AARON shall SPRINKLE the blood thereof upon the altar ..." CEV: "... A priest will then SPLATTER its blood against ... the altar." Deut. 32:22 KJ: "For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest HELL, ..." CEV: "... I will breathe out fire that sends you down to the world of the dead. ..." COMMENT: HELL IS GONE in this verse in the CEV. Joshua 12:23 KJ: "... the king of the NATIONS of Gilgal, ..." CEV: "... Goiim in Galilee, ..." COMMENT: Is the CEV's 'Goiim' a "simpler and more easily understandable word" than the King James' "NATIONS"? Judges 7:20 KJ: "... and they CRIED, The sword OF the Lord, and OF Gideon." CEV: "Fight WITH YOUR SWORDS for the Lord and for Gideon!" COMMENT: Big difference in those two meanings. Also: CONTRARY to the CEV, in this battle Gideon's men DID NOT FIGHT WITH THEIR SWORDS. They only had TRUMPETS, PITCHERS and LAMPS! All they did was to SHOUT "IN FAITH". Thus, the cry: "the sword OF the Lord, and OF Gideon" (in the King James Bible) refers to the Lord who ACTUALLY FOUGHT THE BATTLE FOR THEM (see the Lord's action in Judges 7:22). 2Sam. 16:4 KJ: "... And Ziba said, I humbly BESEECH thee [that] I may FIND GRACE in thy sight, my lord, O king." CEV: "... Ziba said, 'Your majesty, I am your humble servant, and I hope you will be pleased with me.'" 2Sam. 21:19 KJ: "... Elhanan ... slew [THE BROTHER OF] Goliath ..." CEV: "... Elhanan killed Goliath ..." COMMENT: WHAT? 'Elhanan killed Goliath'? Sunday school CHILDREN know that DAVID SLEW Goliath! The CEV translation 'scholars' really blew this one. Oh, BTW, for a good book on the quality of the King James translators please see: "The Men Behind The KJV" by: Gustavus S. Paine ISBN: 0-8010-7008-2 published by Baker Book House. Scholar for scholar the translators of the KJ Bible were far greater men of God than any today. John Bois could read the Bible, in Hebrew, at age 5. Lancelot Andrews was fluent in 20 languages. John Chedderton knew Greek, Hebrew and Latin as well as you and I know English (and better) etc. etc. 1Kings 10:28 KJ: "... and LINEN yarn: the king's merchants received the LINEN yarn at a price." CEV: "Solomon's merchants BOUGHT his HORSES and chariots ..." COMMENT: The CEV isn't even on the right topic. 1Kings 14:24 KJ: "And there were also SODOMITES in the land: ..." CEV: "Even worse, they allowed prostitutes at the shrines, ..." COMMENT: "SODOMITES" and 'prostitutes' are NOT the same. Sodomy is an ABOMINATION (Lev 18:22). Notice: The CEV has REMOVED sodomy. Oh, BTW, an amateur archeologist has found the remains of Sodom and Gomorrah. I've seen their DVD and I believe it is real. Their web site is: http://www.wyattmuseum.com/cities-of-the-plain.htm 1Kings 15:12 KJ: "And he took away the SODOMITES out of the land, ..." CEV: "He forced the prostitutes at the shrines to leave the country, ..." COMMENT: Again, the CEV changes "SODOMITES" to just 'prostitutes'. Sodomy is gone, in the CEV, here in 1Kings 15:12, AND in 1Kings 14:24, AND in 1Kings 22:46 AND in 2Kings 23:7. 1Kings 19:12 KJ: "... A STILL SMALL VOICE." CEV: "... there was a gentle breeze," COMMENT: In the English language, there's a vast difference between 'a gentle breeze' and "A STILL SMALL VOICE"! I'm sure the reader will agree. 1Kings 20:38 KJ: "... with ASHES upon his FACE." CEV: "... a bandage over his face ..." COMMENT: In English, "ASHES" and 'bandage' are two different words entirely. Psalm 2:12 KJ: "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, ..." CEV: "Show respect to his son ..." Psalm 9:17 KJ: "The wicked shall be turned INTO HELL, ..." CEV: "The wicked will go down to the world of the dead ..." COMMENT: The CEV has DELETED HELL in this verse. Psalm 12:6-7 KJ: "The WORDS OF THE LORD [are] pure words: ... THOU SHALT PRESERVE THEM ..." CEV: "... Our Lord, ... your WORD is like silver ... You will protect US and always keep us safe ..." COMMENT: This scripture is about GOD PRESERVING HIS WORDS, not protecting people! Psalm 48:10 KJ: "... thy right hand is full of RIGHTEOUSNESS." CEV: "... you win victories with your powerful arm." COMMENT: There's a lot of difference between "RIGHTEOUSNESS" and 'victories'. Psalm 109:6 KJ: "Set thou a wicked man over him: and let SATAN stand at his right hand." CEV: "My enemies said, 'Find some worthless fools to accuse him of a crime.'" COMMENT: SATAN has been REMOVED in this verse in the CEV. Prov. 23:14 KJ: "Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt DELIVER HIS SOUL FROM HELL." CEV: "... it may even save their lives." COMMENT: What is the CEV talking about? If you spank children they will STILL DIE! All people EVENTUALLY DIE. Hello? Only the King James got it right: Beat him with the rod, and you shall DELIVER HIS SOUL FROM HELL. Eccl. 5:20 KJ: "... God ANSWERETH [HIM] in the joy of his heart." CEV: "God will keep you so happy ..." COMMENT: The CEV translators blew this one. Isaiah 11:3 KJ: "And shall make him of quick understanding ..." CEV: Omitted. COMMENT: The verse is speaking of JESUS and says that he shall be "of quick understanding". The CEV omits this. Isaiah 14:12 KJ: "How art thou fallen from heaven, O LUCIFER, son of the morning! ..." CEV: "You, the bright morning star, have fallen from the sky! ..." COMMENT: WHO is fallen from heaven? The CEV doesn't say. The King James says who: It's LUCIFER. Lucifer is GONE in this verse in the CEV. Isaiah 32:2 KJ: "And A MAN shall be as an hiding place from the wind, ..." CEV: "They will be a place of safety from stormy winds, ..." COMMENT: The "MAN" here can be no one but Christ. Just another case of setting the Lord Jesus aside, and giving us a substitute. Isaiah 53:10 KJ: "... when thou shalt make HIS SOUL an offering for sin, ..." CEV: "... his servant would suffer as a sacrifice to take away the sin and guilt of others. ..." Jer. 31:22 KJ: "... the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, A WOMAN SHALL COMPASS A MAN." CEV: "... as different as a woman protecting a man." COMMENT: The early church fathers are almost unanimous in interpreting this to refer to the virgin Mary COMPASSING Christ IN HER WOMB. Nothing like this before, that a child should be conceived without an earthly father. The CEV completely misses this truth here. Daniel 3:25 KJ: "... and the form of the fourth is like THE SON OF GOD." CEV: "... and the fourth one looks like a god." COMMENT: 'A god?' It was Jesus Christ, THE SON OF GOD, who was in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Messach, and Abednego. It was Jesus Christ who protected them and it is Jesus Christ who saves us from the fiery furnace (i.e. from hell). Hosea 11:12 KJ: "... but Judah YET RULETH WITH GOD, AND IS FAITHFUL WITH THE SAINTS." CEV: "... and Judah worships other gods." COMMENT: What is this but perversion? Hosea 13:9 KJ: "O Israel, THOU HAST DESTROYED THYSELF; but IN ME [IS] THINE HELP." CEV: "Israel, you are done for. Don't expect help from me." COMMENT: Here is a splendid example of how 'new version' text is often made to say exactly the OPPOSITE of what was given by inspiration of Almighty God. Micah 5:2 KJ: "... Bethlehem ... out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose GOINGS FORTH [have been] from of old, from EVERLASTING." CEV: "... someone whose FAMILY goes back to ancient times." COMMENT: This refers to the Lord Jesus Christ and the CEV makes him a CREATED BEING having an origin from a FAMILY of 'ancient times' (but NOT from "EVERLASTING"). Zech. 9:9 KJ: "... behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he [is] just, and having SALVATION; ..." CEV: "Your king has won a victory, ..." COMMENT: Reference to Christ's SALVATION is removed. Zech. 11:17 KJ: "Woe to the IDOL shepherd that leaveth the flock! ..." CEV: "You worthless shepherd, ..." COMMENT: The 'scholars' missed this one. Zech. 13:6 KJ: "And [one] shall say unto HIM, What [are] these wounds IN THINE HANDS? Then HE shall answer, [Those] with which I was wounded [in] the house of my friends." CEV: "And if any of THEM are asked why they are wounded, THEY will answer, 'It happened at the house of some of my friends.'" COMMENT: This is a verse prophesying JESUS CHRIST, NOT OTHER PEOPLE! Jesus was wounded IN HIS HANDS. HE IS THE ONE that shall answer the question, NOT OTHERS. Matt. 2:4 KJ: "... he (King Herod) DEMANDED of them where Christ should be born." CEV: "... and asked them, 'Where will the Messiah be born?'" COMMENT: King Herod, FURIOUS over the arrival of Jesus, (and wanting to DO AWAY with him) did not 'ask' where Christ should be born, he DEMANDED to know! Matt. 5:22 KJ: "But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother WITHOUT A CAUSE shall be in danger of the judgment: ..." CEV: "But I promise you that if you are angry with someone, you will have to stand trial. ..." COMMENT: WHAT? The CEV says you CAN'T be angry?!!! Brothers and sisters: The Apostle Paul was angry and withstood the Apostle Peter to his face (Gal. 2:11). Jesus was angry with the Church at Pergamos because of the erroneous doctrine of the Nicolaitanes (Rev 2:15). The Bible says to BE ANGRY but sin not (Eph. 4:26). And it says not to let the sun go down on YOUR ANGER (Eph. 4:26). The King James is CORRECT: Whosoever is angry with his brother WITHOUT A CAUSE is in danger of the judgment. There is a HUGE difference between those two verses. Matt. 5:44 KJ: "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, BLESS THEM THAT CURSE YOU, DO GOOD TO THEM THAT HATE YOU, and pray for them which DESPITEFULLY USE YOU, AND PERSECUTE you;" CEV: "But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you." COMMENT: The CEV leaves out everything in capital letters. Matt. 6:13 KJ: "... For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever, Amen." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: The CEV omits all this. Matt. 6:27 KJ: "Which of you ... can ADD ONE CUBIT unto his stature?" CEV: "Can worry make you live longer?" COMMENT: The verse is about HEIGHT (i.e. CUBITS) not time! Matt. 7:14 KJ: "Because strait [is] the gate, and NARROW [is] the way, ..." CEV: "... the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is SO HARD ..." COMMENT: Jesus said his "yoke is EASY and his burden is LIGHT" (Matt. 11:30). So then, is the road 'hard'? No! "NARROW" is the way/road (as stated in the King James Bible). Matt. 8:19 KJ: "And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, MASTER, I will follow thee ..." CEV: "A teacher of the Law of Moses came up to him and said, 'Teacher, I'll go anywhere with you!'" COMMENT: Jesus as "MASTER" is watered down to just 'teacher'. Matt. 9:13 KJ: "... for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners TO REPENTANCE." CEV: "... I came to invite sinners." COMMENT: 'Invite' to WHAT? The CEV doesn't say. Those last two words in the KJ ARE CRUCIAL. Hell will get all of the sinners who DON'T repent. JESUS will get all the sinners who DO repent! Matt. 12:6 KJ: "... That in this place is [ONE] GREATER than the temple." CEV: "I tell you that there is something here greater than the temple." COMMENT: It is NOT 'something here' greater than the temple. It is ONE GREATER than the temple (i.e. Jesus Christ). Matt. 12:40 KJ: "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the WHALE'S belly; ..." CEV: "He was in the stomach of a big fish for three days and nights, ..." COMMENT: The Lord Jesus Christ knew the difference between a "WHALE" and a 'fish'. Matt. 12:42 KJ: "... behold, A GREATER THAN SOLOMON [is] here." CEV: "... here is something much greater than Solomon." Matt. 16:3 KJ: "... O [YE] HYPOCRITES, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not [discern] the signs of the times?" CEV: "... You can tell what the weather will be like by looking at the sky. But you don't understand what is happening now." COMMENT: O [YE] HYPOCRITES is omitted. Matt. 16:18 KJ: "... upon this rock I will build my church; and the GATES OF HELL shall not prevail against it." CEV: "... On this rock I will build my church, and death itself will not have any power over it." COMMENT: HELL IS GONE in this verse in the CEV. Matt. 17:21 KJ: "Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by PRAYER and FASTING." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: To cast out certain devils requires PRAYER and FASTING. The CEV ignores this. Matt. 18:11 KJ: "For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost." CEV: Omitted Comment: Jesus' ENTIRE PURPOSE for coming to earth, is omitted in the CEV. Matt. 19:9 KJ: "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: AND WHOSO MARRIETH HER WHICH IS PUT AWAY DOTH COMMIT ADULTERY." CEV: "I say that if your wife has not committed some terrible sexual sin, you must not divorce her to marry someone else. If you do, you are unfaithful." COMMENT: The CEV waters down ADULTERY to just 'unfaithful'. Also, as IMPORTANT as this verse is about marriage, the CEV deletes about ONE THIRD of it. Matt. 19:17 KJ: "... WHY CALLEST THOU ME GOOD? ..." CEV: "... Why do you ask me about what is good? ..." Matt. 20:7 KJ: "... Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; AND WHATSOEVER IS RIGHT, [THAT] SHALL YE RECEIVE." CEV: "'Because no one has hired us', they answered. Then he told them to go work in his vineyard." COMMENT: The CEV omits about 1/2 the verse! And this omission makes it HARDER to understand the explanation given later in Matt. 20:13. Matt. 20:16 KJ: "So the last shall be first, and the first last: FOR MANY BE CALLED, BUT FEW CHOSEN." CEV: "... Everyone who is now first will be last, and everyone who is last will be first." COMMENT: The CEV omits: "FOR MANY BE CALLED, BUT FEW CHOSEN." Matt. 20:20 KJ: "Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, WORSHIPPING [him], ..." CEV: "... She knelt down and started begging him to do something for her." COMMENT: Kneeling down is not the same thing as TRUE "WORSHIP". Matt. 21:32 KJ: "For John CAME unto you IN THE WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots BELIEVED HIM: ..." CEV: "When John the Baptist showed you how to do right, you would not believe him. But those evil people did believe. ..." COMMENT: John CAME IN THE WAY OF RIGHTEOUSNESS not 'showing how to do right'. Matt. 23:8 KJ: "But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your MASTER, [even] Christ; ..." CEV: "But none of you should be called a teacher. You have only one teacher, ..." COMMENT: Jesus as "MASTER" is watered down to just 'teacher' and that 'teacher' is then NAMELESS in the CEV. Matt. 23:14 KJ: "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and FOR A PRETENCE make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater DAMNATION." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: Jesus CONDEMNS HYPOCRISY, yet this warning is OMITTED in the CEV. Matt. 23:33 KJ: "[Ye] serpents, [ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the DAMNATION of hell?" CEV: "You are nothing but snakes and the children of snakes! How can you escape going to hell?" COMMENT: Hell is more than just a place to go. It is "DAMNATION". Dear reader: Be sure that you, and those around you, are SAVED. Matt. 25:13 KJ: "... ye know neither the day nor the hour WHEREIN THE SON OF MAN COMETH." CEV: "... You don't know the day or the time when all this will happen." COMMENT: WHO is it that is coming again? That's right: JESUS! But, you wouldn't know it from the CEV. Matt. 27:4 KJ: "... I have sinned in that I have betrayed THE INNOCENT BLOOD. ..." CEV: "... I have sinned by betraying a man who has never done anything wrong." COMMENT: There are lots of men that are innocent of certain crimes. But ONLY JESUS CHRIST was "THE" INNOCENT BLOOD. Think about it. Matt. 27:35 KJ: "And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: THAT IT MIGHT BE FULFILLED WHICH WAS SPOKEN BY THE PROPHET, THEY PARTED MY GARMENTS AMONG THEM, AND UPON MY VESTURE DID THEY CAST LOTS." CEV: "The soldiers nailed Jesus to a cross and gambled to see who would get his clothes." COMMENT: The CEV omits the section of scripture documenting this FULFILLMENT OF PROPHECY. Mark 1:2 KJ: "As it is written IN THE PROPHETS, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee." CEV: "It began just as God had said in the book written by Isaiah the prophet, 'I am sending my messenger to get the way ready for you.'" Comment: The verse being quoted here is NOT from Isaiah, as the CEV says; it is from Malachi 3:1. Check it out. The King James has the correct reading which is: "As it is written in the prophets ..." (because Malachi was a prophet). Mark 1:15 KJ: "... the kingdom of God is AT HAND: REPENT YE, and believe THE GOSPEL." CEV: "... God's kingdom will soon be here. Turn back to God and believe the good news!" COMMENT: Jesus was the one speaking. Since Jesus IS GOD, the kingdom of God was AT HAND, not soon to be here. Also, there are many items in the news that can be called 'good news'. But, Jesus said to SPECIFICALLY believe THE GOSPEL. Mark 3:5 KJ: "... his hand was restored WHOLE AS THE OTHER." CEV: "... and his bad hand was healed." Mark 3:29 KJ: "But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost ... is in danger of eternal DAMNATION:" CEV: "But if you speak against the Holy Spirit, you can never be forgiven. That sin will be held against you forever." COMMENT: This verse contains an IMPORTANT WARNING but the CEV waters it down. Mark 6:11 KJ: "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, IT SHALL BE MORE TOLERABLE FOR SODOM AND GOMORRHA IN THE DAY OF JUDGMENT, THAN FOR THAT CITY." CEV: "If any place won't welcome you or listen to your message, leave and shake the dust from your feet as a warning to them." COMMENT: An important warning from Jesus, but the CEV leaves out about HALF of it. Mark 6:51 KJ: "... and they were SORE AMAZED IN THEMSELVES BEYOND MEASURE, AND WONDERED." CEV: "... The disciples were completely confused." COMMENT: "AMAZED" and 'confused' are NOTHING ALIKE. Mark 7:16 KJ: "If any man have ears to hear, let him hear." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: Numbering verses 14, 15, and then 17 is NOT new math. The CEV leaves out JESUS' COMMAND TO HEAR HIM. Mark 9:24 KJ: "... Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief." CEV: "... 'I do have faith! Please help me to have even more.'" Mark 9:29 KJ: "And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer AND FASTING." CEV: "Jesus answered, 'Only prayer can force out that kind of demon.'" COMMENT: Notice: FASTING is left out! Wonder why Satan does not want us to fast? Mark 9:44,46 KJ: "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." CEV: This verse, in both Mark 9:44 and Mark 9:46 is omitted. COMMENT: The CEV's note: "some manuscripts add ..." is an UNDERSTATEMENT. Actually, MOST manuscripts have "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." Mark 9:47 KJ: "... than having two eyes to be cast into hell FIRE:" CEV: "... than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell." COMMENT: The CEV waters down the SEVERITY of hell. Mark 10:21 KJ: "... and come, TAKE UP THE CROSS, and follow me." CEV: "... Then come with me." COMMENT: The Christian TAKES UP THE CROSS and dies (to their will) daily. The CEV has DELETED this. Mark 10:24 KJ: "... Children, how hard is it FOR THEM THAT TRUST IN RICHES to enter into the kingdom of God!" CEV: "... It's terribly hard to get into God's kingdom!" COMMENT: The problem, as correctly stated in the King James Bible, is TRUSTING IN RICHES. Mark 11:10 KJ: "Blessed [be] the kingdom of our FATHER David, THAT COMETH IN THE NAME OF THE LORD: HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST." CEV: "God bless the coming kingdom of our ancestor David. ..." COMMENT: Note: The CEV is BIASED against FATHERS in this verse (and in others). So, what you see is the use of the word 'ancestor' instead of "FATHER". But, the King James Bible is clear. God's hierarchy includes the Father (and, oh BTW, God also holds men responsible). Mark 11:26 KJ: "But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: A HUGE WARNING. Yet, Mark 11:26 is omitted in the CEV. Mark 12:40 KJ: "... and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive GREATER DAMNATION." CEV: "... They will be punished most of all." COMMENT: Here is A HUGE WARNING about hypocrisy, but the CEV waters down "DAMNATION" to only 'punished'. Mark 13:14 KJ: "But when ye shall see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION, SPOKEN OF BY DANIEL THE PROPHET, ..." CEV: "Someday you will see that 'Horrible Thing' where it should not be. ..." COMMENT: Another section of scripture that points out the FULFILLMENT OF A PROPHECY, but the CEV omits it. Mark 13:33 KJ: "Take ye heed, watch AND PRAY: ..." CEV: "... watch out and be ready ..." COMMENT: What does the CEV have against PRAYING? Mark 14:22 KJ: "... Take, EAT: this is my body." CEV: "... Take this. It is my body." Mark 15:28 KJ: "And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And HE WAS NUMBERED WITH THE TRANSGRESSORS." CEV: Omitted Mark 16:6 KJ: "... Be not affrighted: ..." CEV: "... Don't be alarmed! ..." Mark 16:9-20 KJ: (All verses of Mark 16:9-20 are included) CEV: Mark 16:9-20 gives the note, "One OLD ending to Mark's gospel." COMMENT: In John Burgeon's book, "The Last Twelve Verses of the Gospel of Mark", he has written over 400 pages proving conclusively that this section was in the original manuscripts. Burgeon's book remains unanswered and is unanswerable. Mark 16:15 KJ: "... Go ye into all the world, and preach THE GOSPEL ..." CEV: "... Go and preach the good news to everyone in the world." COMMENT: There are a lot of items in the news that are generic 'good news'. But, Jesus said to SPECIFICALLY preach THE GOSPEL. There is a DIFFERENCE. Luke 1:28 KJ: "And the angel came in unto her, and said, HAIL, [THOU THAT ART] HIGHLY FAVOURED, the Lord [is] with thee: BLESSED [ART] THOU AMONG WOMEN." CEV: "The angel greeted Mary and said, You are truly blessed! The Lord is with you!'" Luke 1:34 KJ: "Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I KNOW NOT A MAN?" CEV: "... 'How can this happen? I am not married!'" COMMENT: Not even the Greek or Latin Vulgate will sanction this one. Luke 2:33 KJ: "And JOSEPH and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him." CEV: "Jesus' parents were surprised at what Simeon had said." COMMENT: Jesus' parents? The CEV makes Joseph the FATHER of Jesus. GOD WAS THE FATHER OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST -NOT Joseph! Luke 2:43 KJ: "... the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and JOSEPH AND HIS MOTHER knew not [of it]." CEV: "After Passover his parents left, but they did not know that Jesus had stayed behind in that city." COMMENT: 'HIS PARENTS'? Again, the CEV makes JOSEPH the father of the Lord Jesus Christ. Joseph was NOT Jesus' father, GOD WAS. Luke 2:49 KJ: "... I must be about my Father's BUSINESS ..." CEV: "... Didn't you know that I would be in my Father's house?" COMMENT: Come on! Don't the "scholars" know the difference between BUSINESS and a house? Luke 4:4 KJ: "... man shall not live by bread alone, BUT BY EVERY WORD OF GOD." CEV: "... 'No one can live only on food.'" COMMENT: Other than 'food', what else does man need? The CEV doesn't say. Only the King James tells us: We need EVERY WORD OF GOD! Luke 4:8 KJ: "And Jesus answered and said unto him, GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." CEV: "Jesus answered, 'The scriptures say: Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him!'" COMMENT: The CEV omits "GET THEE BEHIND ME, SATAN." Luke 4:18 KJ: "The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; HE HATH SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised," CEV: Luke 4:18 omits entirely, "HE HATH SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED." Luke 9:55-56 KJ: "But he turned, and rebuked them, AND SAID, YE KNOW NOT WHAT MANNER OF SPIRIT YE ARE OF. FOR THE SON OF MAN IS NOT COME TO DESTROY MEN'S LIVES, BUT TO SAVE [THEM]. And they went to another village." CEV: "But Jesus turned and corrected them for what they had said. Then they all went on to another village." COMMENT: Scripture has been OMITTED in the CEV. Again, this casts doubt on the veracity, the authenticity of this passage. Luke 11:2-4 KJ: "And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, OUR FATHER WHICH ART IN HEAVEN, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, AS IN HEAVEN, SO IN EARTH. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL." CEV: "So Jesus told them, 'Pray in this way: Father, help us to honor your name. Come and set up your kingdom. Give us each day the food we need. Forgive our sins as we forgive everyone who has done wrong to us. And keep us from being tempted.'" Luke 11:29 KJ: "... but the sign of Jonas THE PROPHET." CEV: "... But what happened to Jonah ..." Luke 17:36 KJ: "Two [men] shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left." CEV: Omitted Luke 22:20 KJ: "Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [IS] THE NEW TESTAMENT in MY blood, which is SHED FOR YOU." CEV: "... This is my blood. It is poured out for you, and with it God makes his new agreement." COMMENT: It is NOT an agreement; it is a "NEW TESTAMENT". An agreement takes two to agree (in this case man and God). God (Jesus) did it all himself without needing man's 'agreement'. Luke 23:17 KJ: "(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)" CEV: Luke 23:17 is omitted. COMMENT: Again, this casts doubt on a passage in God's word. Luke 23:23 KJ: "... And the voices of them AND OF THE CHIEF PRIESTS prevailed." CEV: "The people kept on shouting as loud as they could ..." Luke 23:42 KJ: "And he said unto Jesus, LORD, remember me when thou comest into thy KINGDOM." CEV: "Then he said to Jesus, 'Remember me when you come into power!'" COMMENT: No explanation is given for leaving out "LORD". The thief GOT SAVED so OF COURSE he addressed Jesus as LORD! Also, it not explained what happened to Jesus' KINGDOM. Luke 23:45 KJ: "And the sun was DARKENED, ..." CEV: "The sun stopped shining, ..." COMMENT: How did the sun stop shining? The CEV doesn't say. But, the King James tells us: The sun was supernaturally DARKENED. Luke 24:46 KJ: "... and thus it BEHOVED Christ to suffer, ..." CEV: "... that the Messiah must suffer, ..." COMMENT: The CEV misses a HUGE POINT: It BEHOVED Christ to suffer. He did it WILLINGLY. Luke 24:47 KJ: "And that REPENTANCE and remission of sins should be preached ..." CEV: "... all people ... must be told ... to turn to God, in order to be forgiven. ..." COMMENT: The CEV misses the point: People must REPENT. John 1:11 KJ: "He came unto his OWN, and his own received him not." CEV: "He came into his own world, but his own nation did not welcome him." John 1:14 KJ: "... (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of THE ONLY BEGOTTEN of the Father,) ..." CEV: "... We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. ..." COMMENT: God has MORE THAN ONE SON. Every male that is saved is a SON of God! The King James is right: Jesus was THE ONLY BEGOTTEN of the Father. John 1:42 KJ: "And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, WHICH IS BY INTERPRETATION, A STONE." CEV: "Andrew brought his brother to Jesus. And when Jesus saw him, he said, 'Simon son of John, you will be called Cephas.' ..." COMMENT: The CEV omits: Thou shall be called Cephas, WHICH IS BY INTERPRETATION, A STONE. This omission is DISASTROUS. Jesus calls Peter "A STONE" to differentiate Peter from Jesus who is THE ROCK (1Co. 10:4). Thus, when Jesus says: upon THIS ROCK (not stone) I will build my Church (Matt. 16:18) Jesus is NOT REFERRING to Peter. And that is one of many errors in Catholic doctrine. John 3:13 KJ: "And NO MAN hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, [even] the Son of man which is in heaven." CEV: "No one has gone up to heaven except the Son of Man, who came down from there." COMMENT: Not true, CEV! Remember the angels on Jacob's ladder? They ASCENDED AND DESCENDED. Also, SATAN WENT INTO HEAVEN and made accusations against Job (Job 1:6). Remember? John 3:15 KJ: "That whosoever believeth in him SHOULD NOT PERISH, but have eternal life." CEV: "Then everyone who has faith in the Son of Man will have eternal life." COMMENT: NOT PERISHING is important, don't you think? John 3:16 KJ: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, ..." CEV: "God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, ..." COMMENT: Believers in God are called HIS SONS and daughters. God did NOT give his ONLY SON. He has MANY sons! God gave his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. John 4:24 KJ: "God [is] A Spirit: ..." CEV: "God is Spirit, ..." COMMENT: For the CEV to say: 'God is spirit' is to infer that ALL spirits are of God. NOT true. We know there are evil spirits. And we know that in God there is NO evil. Thus the King James is correct: God is "A" spirit. John 5:4 KJ: "For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: More doubt cast onto the authority and accuracy of God's word. Also, the CEV OMITS a capability (apparently) of an HOLY angel of God. John 5:16 KJ: "And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, AND SOUGHT TO SLAY HIM, because he had done these things on the sabbath day." CEV: "They started making a lot of trouble for Jesus because he did things like this on the Sabbath." COMMENT: No reason is given for omitting this phrase or for brushing over the fact that the Jews wanted to MURDER Jesus. John 6:33 KJ: "For the bread of God is HE which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world." CEV: "And the bread that God gives is the one who came down from heaven to give life to the world." COMMENT: The bread of God is NOT the 'one' that came down from heaven as 'one' could refer to an angel etc. The bread of God is HE which came down from heaven (i.e. Jesus Christ). John 6:69 KJ: "And we BELIEVE and ARE SURE that thou art that CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD." CEV: "We have faith in you, and we are sure that you are God's Holy One." COMMENT: What happened to CHRIST? And what happened to him being the Son of the LIVING GOD? John 8:9 KJ: "And they which heard [it], BEING CONVICTED BY [THEIR OWN] CONSCIENCE, went out one by one, ..." CEV: "The people left one by one, ..." COMMENT: No reason is given for omitting this phrase. John 8:59 KJ: "Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, GOING THROUGH THE MIDST OF THEM, AND SO PASSED BY." CEV: "The people picked up stones to kill Jesus, but he hid and left the temple." COMMENT: Quite a different thought. John 9:4 KJ: "I MUST work the works of him that sent me, ..." CEV: "... we must do ..." John 9:35 KJ: "... Dost thou believe on the SON OF GOD?" CEV: "... Do you have faith in the Son of Man?" John 10:30 KJ: "I and [MY] Father are one." CEV: "and I am one with the Father." COMMENT: Notice: The KJ's "MY" Father is GONE and is replaced by 'the' Father. Thus, the CEV deletes the PERSONAL relationship of "MY FATHER" between Jesus and the heavenly Father. John 11:41 KJ: "Then they took away the stone [FROM THE PLACE] WHERE THE DEAD WAS LAID. ..." CEV: "After the stone had been rolled aside, ..." COMMENT: It's NOT a miracle if Lazarus isn't DEAD. John 14:2 KJ: "In my Father's house are MANY MANSIONS: ..." CEV: "There are many rooms in my Father's house. ..." COMMENT: If Jesus thinks your work for him was WORTHY, wouldn't you want a "MANSION" instead of just a 'room'? The CEV waters down one of the POSSIBLE REWARDS from God. John 16:16 KJ: "A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, BECAUSE I GO TO THE FATHER." CEV: "... For a little while you won't see me, but after a while you will see me." COMMENT: Jesus' prophecy, about himself, is corrupted in the CEV. John 17:5 KJ: "And now, O Father, GLORIFY THOU ME WITH THINE OWN SELF with the glory which I had with thee ..." CEV: "... give me back the glory that I had with you ..." Acts 1:3 KJ: ".. he shewed himself alive after his passion BY MANY INFALLIBLE PROOFS, ..." CEV: "... he proved in many ways ..." COMMENT: The evidence about Jesus is INFALLIBLE. Acts 2:30 KJ: "... that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, ACCORDING TO THE FLESH, HE WOULD RAISE UP CHRIST to sit on his throne;" CEV: "... He had told David that someone from his own family would someday be king." COMMENT: The CEV totally misses the point. It wasn't a family member that would sit on the throne; it was GOD ALMIGHTY (Jesus Christ) that would sit on the throne! Acts 2:47 KJ: "... And the Lord added TO THE CHURCH daily such as SHOULD BE saved." CEV: "... the Lord added to their GROUP others who were BEING SAVED. COMMENT: The people that were added were added to THE CHURCH (not to a generic 'group'). Also, salvation is an IMMEDIATE event. It is NOT A PROCESS. People are either SAVED or they are NOT. They are NOT 'being saved'. Acts 3:13 KJ: "The God of Abraham, ... hath glorified HIS SON Jesus; ..." CEV: "... God ... has brought honor to his Servant Jesus. ..." COMMENT: Jesus AS GOD'S SON has been watered down to just 'Servant'. Acts 4:27 KJ: "... thy HOLY CHILD Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, ..." CEV: "... they turned against your holy Servant Jesus, ..." COMMENT: Again, the CEV waters down Jesus. This time GOD'S HOLY CHILD is watered down to just a 'holy Servant'. Acts 4:30 KJ: "... thy HOLY CHILD Jesus." CEV: "... your holy Servant Jesus." COMMENT: One more time: The CEV waters down Jesus as GOD'S HOLY CHILD to just a 'holy Servant'. Acts 8:9 KJ: "... a certain man, ... used sorcery, and BEWITCHED the people ..." CEV: "... a man ... amazed the people ... practiced witchcraft ..." COMMENT: No! No! No! He didn't 'amaze' the people (as if they were being entertained). No, his WITCHCRAFT BEWITCHED THEM (to their detriment). Acts 8:37 KJ: "And Philip said, IF THOU BELIEVEST WITH ALL THINE HEART, THOU MAYEST. And he answered and said, I BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD." CEV: Acts 8:37 is OMITTED. COMMENT: This verse shows THE REQUIREMENT for water baptism, namely: BELIEVING THAT JESUS CHRIST IS THE SON OF GOD. But, both Codex Aleph and B leave this verse out and they are TWO OF THE WORST manuscripts. This is a good example of the spiritual BATTLE that has, and still surrounds, the word of God. Acts 9:5-6 KJ: "And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: [IT IS] HARD FOR THEE TO KICK AGAINST THE PRICKS. AND HE TREMBLING AND ASTONISHED SAID, LORD, WHAT WILT THOU HAVE ME TO DO? And the Lord [said] unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do." CEV: "'Who are you?' Saul asked. 'I am Jesus,' the Lord answered. 'I am the one you are so cruel to. Now get up and go into the city, where you will be told what to do.'" COMMENT: Truly the translators have emasculated these two verses and give no reason at all for their omission. Again, they would inject a doubt into the mind of anyone who believes the Bible to be the verbally inspired word of God. Acts 10:37 KJ: "THAT WORD, [I say], ye know, which was PUBLISHED THROUGHOUT ALL JUDAEA, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;" CEV: "You surely know what happened everywhere in Judea. It all began in Galilee after John had told everyone to be baptized." COMMENT: Notice how VAGUE the CEV is. It says: 'you surely know what happened' but then doesn't say WHAT HAPPENED! The King James tells us plainly: THE WORD WAS PUBLISHED THROUGHOUT ALL JUDAEA. Acts 12:4 KJ: "... after EASTER ..." CEV: "... after the festival." Acts 15:11 KJ: "But we believe that through the GRACE of the LORD JESUS CHRIST we shall be saved, even as they." CEV: "... we are saved by faith in him, just as the Gentiles are." COMMENT: What happened to "GRACE"? And, what happened to the "LORD JESUS CHRIST?" Acts 15:18 KJ: "KNOWN UNTO GOD are all his works FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD." CEV: "I promised it long ago." COMMENT: Those two verses are NOTHING alike. Acts 15:34 KJ: "Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: Numbering verses 32, 33, and then 35, is NOT new math. Acts 16:31 KJ: "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus CHRIST, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." CEV: "... Have faith in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved! ..." COMMENT: Again they omit "CHRIST". Acts 17:22 KJ: "Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are TOO SUPERSTITIOUS." CEV: "So Paul stood up in front of the council and said: People of Athens, I see that you are very religious." Comment: Come on! Is being 'very religious' the same as "TOO SUPERSTITIOUS"? Acts 20:23-24 KJ: "... the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. BUT NONE OF THESE THINGS MOVE ME, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, ..." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: PRAISE GOD the Apostle Paul was NOT MOVED by his circumstances! Thus, he could continue to PREACH THE GOSPEL with BOLDNESS. May WE DO THE SAME and may we HAVE THE SAME ATTITUDE! Thanks to the King James Bible for giving us insight into this man of God. Acts 21:9 KJ: "And the same man had four daughters, VIRGINS, which did prophesy." CEV: "and he had four UNMARRIED daughters who prophesied." COMMENT: What happened to the blessing of VIRGINITY? 'New versions' like the CEV do not like the topic of virginity. Also, being a VIRGIN and being 'unmarried' are VERY different. Acts 23:9 KJ: "... let us not fight against God." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: Some IMPORTANT ADVICE, don't you think? Acts 24:6-7 KJ: "Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law. 7 But the chief captain Lysias came [upon us], and with great violence took [him] away out of our hands," CEV: Most of this has been omitted. Acts 28:29 KJ: "And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves." CEV: Acts 28:29 is omitted. COMMENT: The VAST MAJORITY of manuscripts have this verse! This is still another doubt cast upon the word of God. Romans 1:16 KJ: "For I am NOT ASHAMED of the GOSPEL of Christ: ..." CEV: "I am proud of the good news! ... COMMENT: First off pride goeth before DESTRUCTION (Prov. 16:18). So, pride is BAD. The verse should say "I am NOT ASHAMED" as stated in the King James Bible. Second: The translators seem to dislike the word "GOSPEL". Good news can be ANYTHING, but the GOSPEL is VERY SPECIFIC. Romans 1:25 KJ: "Who CHANGED the truth of God INTO a lie, ..." CEV: "They gave up the truth about God for a lie, ..." COMMENT: Those two verses are NOT the same. Romans 6:18 KJ: "Being then made free from sin, ye became the SERVANTS of righteousness." CEV: "Now you are set free from sin and are slaves who please God." COMMENT: Are we 'slaves' or "SERVANTS"? Answer: SERVANTS! Think about the difference. Romans 6:22 KJ: "But now being made free from sin, and become SERVANTS to God, ..." CEV: "Now you have been set free from sin, and you are God's slaves. ..." COMMENT: WHAT? AGAIN? 'Slaves of God'? No! No! No! We are "SERVANTS" to God, as properly stated in the King James Bible. Romans 8:1 KJ: "[There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT." CEV: "If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won't be punished." COMMENT: AN IMPORTANT QUALIFICATION is in the second half of the verse, but the CEV omits it. Romans 9:5 KJ: "... CONCERNING THE FLESH CHRIST [CAME], who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen." CEV: "... those famous ancestors, who were also the ancestors of Jesus Christ. I pray that God, who rules over all, will be praised forever! Amen." COMMENT: Those two verses are not alike. Romans 10:17 KJ: "So then faith [cometh] by hearing, AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD." CEV: "No one can have faith without hearing the message about Christ." Romans 13:9 KJ: "... Thou shalt not bear false witness, ..." CEV: Omitted COMMENT: The Bible says that all liars (false witnesses) go to the lake of fire (Rev 21:8). So, why leave this out? Romans 14:1 KJ: "Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, [but] not to DOUBTFUL disputations." CEV: "Welcome all ... whose faith is weak. Don't criticize them for having beliefs that are different from yours." COMMENT: Notice: The KJ does NOT say we cannot have disputes; only that we should not have DOUBTFUL disputes. What are doubtful disputes? Whether we can 'eat all things' or only 'herbs'(Romans 14:2) or whether we 'esteem every day alike' or 'one day over another' (Romans 14:5). But, in the CEV we would NEVER DISPUTE OR CRITICIZE ANYTHING including KEY DOCTRINE like Paul and Barnabus going up to Jerusalem concerning whether circumcision was necessary for salvation (Acts 15:1-2). The CEV would also come against both Titus 1:9 where we are to use sound doctrine to CONVINCE THE GAINSAYERS and 2Tim. 3:16 where ALL SCRIPTURE is profitable for REPROOF and for CORRECTION. Romans 16:24 KJ: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you all. Amen." CEV: Romans 16:24 is omitted. COMMENT: The vast majority of manuscripts have this verse. 1Cor. 1:18 KJ: "For the preaching of the cross is to them that PERISH foolishness; but unto us which ARE SAVED it is the power of God." CEV: "The message about the cross doesn't make any sense to lost people. But for those of us we who are BEING SAVED, it is God's power at work." COMMENT: The CEV waters down "to them that PERISH" to just 'lost people'. Also, the CEV is teaching that salvation is a PROCESS (i.e. 'BEING' saved). NOT true. It is an IMMEDIATE event (i.e. "ARE SAVED"). 1Cor. 1:21 KJ: "... it pleased God by the FOOLISHNESS OF PREACHING to save them that believe." CEV: "... God chose to save only those who believe the FOOLISH MESSAGE we preach." COMMENT: Contrary to the CEV, THE GOSPEL MESSAGE IS NOT FOOLISH. 1Cor. 1:22 KJ: "For the Jews REQUIRE a sign, ..." CEV: "Jews ask for miracles, ..." 1Cor. 5:4 KJ: "In the name of our Lord Jesus CHRIST, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus CHRIST," CEV: "... So when you meet together and the power of the Lord Jesus is with you, I will be there too." COMMENT: THE NAME "CHRIST" is omitted twice. Why do the translators dislike "CHRIST" so much? Are the translators of these 'new versions' really saved? 1Cor. 5:7 KJ: "... For even Christ our passover is sacrificed FOR US:" CEV: "... Our Passover lamb is Christ, who has already been sacrificed." COMMENT: Christ was sacrificed FOR US. The CEV misses the key point, don't you think? 1Cor. 6:9-10 KJ: "... Be not deceived: neither fornicators, ... NOR EFFEMINATE, ... shall inherit the kingdom of God." CEV: "Nor effeminate" has been omitted in CEV. 1Cor. 6:20 KJ: "For ye are bought with a price: therefore GLORIFY God in your body, AND IN YOUR SPIRIT, WHICH ARE GOD'S." CEV: "God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God." COMMENT: We are to GLORIFY God and not just 'honor' him. Also, we are to GLORIFY God in our SPIRIT, too. Again, the CEV leaves out scripture. 1Cor. 7:5 KJ: "... give yourselves to FASTING and prayer; ..." CEV: "... in order to spend time in prayer. ..." COMMENT: What does the CEV have against FASTING? 1Cor. 7:25 KJ: "Now concerning VIRGINS ..." CEV: "... about people who have never been married. ..." COMMENT: 'New versions", including the CEV, eliminate VIRGINS. But, there is a BIG DIFFERENCE between "VIRGINS" and the 'never been married'. 1Cor. 7:39 KJ: "The wife is BOUND BY THE LAW as long as her husband liveth; ..." CEV: "A wife should stay married to her husband until he dies. ..." 1Cor. 9:1 KJ: "... have I not seen Jesus CHRIST our Lord? ..." CEV: "... I have seen the Lord Jesus ..." COMMENT: No reason is given for omitting the name "CHRIST". 1Cor. 11:24 KJ: "And when he had given thanks, he brake [it], and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is BROKEN for you: ..." CEV: "Then after he had given thanks, he broke it and said, 'This is my body, which is given for you. Eat this and remember me.'" COMMENT: The CEV misses a HUGE point: Christ's body WAS BROKEN for us. 1Cor. 15:1 KJ: "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the GOSPEL ..." CEV: "My friends, I want you to remember the message that I preached ..." COMMENT: 'Message' is vague and generic. But the GOSPEL is SPECIFIC. 1Cor. 15:45 KJ: "... The first man Adam was made a living SOUL; ..." CEV: "The first man was named Adam, and the Scriptures tell us that he was a living person. ..." COMMENT: A MAJOR difference between man and beast is that man is the ONLY creature with a "SOUL". 1Cor. 16:22 KJ: "If any man love not the Lord JESUS CHRIST, let him be Anathema Maranatha." CEV: "I pray that God will put a curse on everyone who doesn't love the Lord. ..." COMMENT: Leaving out "JESUS CHRIST" leaves us guessing as to WHOM the CEV wants us to love. 1Cor. 16:23 KJ: "The GRACE of our Lord Jesus CHRIST [be] with you." CEV: "I pray that the Lord Jesus will be kind to you." COMMENT: The CEV waters down "GRACE" to just 'kindness'. 2Cor. 2:15 KJ: "For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them THAT ARE SAVED, ..." CEV: "For people who are being saved, this perfume has a sweet smell ..." COMMENT: 'Being saved'? Again? The CEV is teaching salvation is a PROCESS. NO! It is an IMMEDIATE EVENT. 2Cor. 2:17 KJ: "For we are not as many, which CORRUPT the word of God: ..." CEV: "A lot of people try to get rich from preaching God's message. ..." COMMENT: Getting rich and CORRUPTING are VERY DIFFERENT! The CEV is not even on the right TOPIC. Note: 'New' versions try and hide from the truth they are CORRUPTING the word of God. 2Cor. 8:9 KJ: "For ye know the GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ, ..." CEV: "You know that our Lord Jesus Christ was kind enough to give up all his riches ..." COMMENT: "GRACE" has been watered down to just being 'kind'. And the CEV's statement that the Lord Jesus WAS (past tense) 'kind' is WRONG. Jesus Christ STILL IS (present tense) kind. And more than that, he is full of GRACE. 2Cor. 10:5 KJ: "Casting down IMAGINATIONS, and every high thing ..." 2Cor. 10:4-5 CEV: "... We destroy arguments and every bit of pride ..." COMMENT: It's IMAGINATIONS that can sometimes BAIT US into sin. 2Cor. 11:31 KJ: "The God and Father of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, ..." CEV: "God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, ..." COMMENT: We ask in all sincerity, "Are the translators anxious to get rid of the name CHRIST altogether?" Gal. 2:20 KJ: "I AM crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; ..." Gal. 2:19-20 CEV: "I HAVE BEEN nailed to the cross with Christ. I have died, ..." COMMENT: The CEV says their crucifixion is PAST TENSE! (i.e. 'have been') NOT TRUE. The believer's crucifixion is an ongoing, PRESENT TENSE, transaction. Also, NO ONE was nailed to the cross WITH CHRIST. He died ALONE for our sin. He, and he alone, paid ALL our sin debt. We did NOT help him! Lastly, we are NOT 'DEAD' the way the CEV implies. Gal. 5:12 KJ: "I would they were even cut off which trouble you." CEV: "I wish that everyone who is upsetting you would not only get circumcised, but would cut off much more!" COMMENT: What kind of PERVERSION is the CEV teaching? Gal. 6:17 KJ: "... for I bear IN my body the marks of the LORD JESUS." CEV: "On my own body are scars that prove I belong to Christ Jesus. ..." COMMENT: I have a few scars on my body, too. But, that doesn't prove I belong to Jesus Christ, because I got those scars BEFORE I was saved. The marks of the Lord Jesus are IN our body as properly stated in the King James Bible. The marks of the Lord Jesus are NOT ON our body. WE ARE NOT TALKING CATTLE BRANDING HERE! Eph. 1:6 KJ: "... he hath made us ACCEPTED IN THE BELOVED." CEV: "God was very kind to us because of the Son he dearly loves, ..." COMMENT: 'Because of THE Son (singular) he dearly loves'? Notice: That does NOT necessarily mean that WE are ALSO loved! Do you see the 'sleight of hand' here? But, the King James has the correct doctrine which is: WE ARE ACCEPTED IN THE BELOVED (i.e. WE ARE ALSO LOVED). Eph. 3:14 KJ: "For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST," CEV: "I kneel in prayer to the Father." COMMENT: Which Father is the CEV talking about? Satan is a father, the KJ says he is the "father of lies". Only the King James says which Father it is: It is the Father OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. Eph. 5:1 KJ: "Be ye therefore FOLLOWERS of God, ..." CEV: "Do as God does. ..." Comment: Can we REALLY 'do as God does'? Can born again believers run the universe? No! We can only FOLLOW God. Remember, Jesus DID NOT tell his "fishers of men" to 'do as God does'; Jesus said: "follow me ...". Eph. 5:9 KJ: "(For the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT [is] in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)" CEV: "and make your light shine. ..." COMMENT: The topic of this verse is the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT, not light. The CEV is not even on the right topic. Eph. 5:30 KJ: "For we are MEMBERS of his body, OF HIS FLESH, AND OF HIS BONES." CEV: "because we are each part of his body." Philip. 2:6 KJ: "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery TO BE EQUAL WITH GOD:" CEV: "Christ was truly God. But he did not try to remain equal with God." COMMENT: WHAT? Jesus Christ STOPPED BEING GOD? Philip. 3:8 KJ: "... DUNG, ..." CEV: "... garbage. ..." Philip. 3:21 KJ: "Who shall change our VILE BODY, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, ..." CEV: "... he will make these poor bodies of ours like his own glorious body." COMMENT: 'Poor bodies'? The problem is that our bodies are "VILE". Our HEART is desperately WICKED (Jer. 17:9). Our FLESH is SINFUL (Romans 8:3). There is NO GOOD THING that dwells in our FLESH (Romans 7:18) etc. Col. 1:14 KJ: "In whom we have REDEMPTION THROUGH HIS BLOOD, [even] the forgiveness of sins:" CEV: "who forgives our sins and sets us free." COMMENT: Three comments: 1) What happened to the BLOOD? Without the shedding of blood there is NO REMISSION (Heb. 9:22). 2) Prisoners released from jail have 'freedom', but that is not "REDEMPTION". 3) Jesus did not (passively) 'set' us free, he ACTIVELY MADE US FREE (Gal. 5:1). To save us Jesus had to START OVER again FROM SCRATCH! We had to be BORN AGAIN! The CEV waters down the WORK Jesus had to do for our salvation. Col. 2:2 KJ: "... to the acknowledgement of the mystery of GOD, AND OF THE FATHER, and of Christ;" CEV: The CEV omits GOD THE FATHER. Col. 2:9 KJ: "For IN HIM DWELLETH ALL THE FULNESS OF THE GODHEAD BODILY." CEV: "God lives fully in Christ." COMMENT: The CEV makes God SEPARATE from Christ. Only the King James makes Christ God, as Christ is part of the Godhead. Col. 3:2 KJ: "Set your AFFECTION on things above, ..." CEV: "Think about what is up there, ..." COMMENT: Our mind can be an issue, but the BIGGER issue is our AFFECTION (i.e. our HEART) as stated by the King James Bible. See also Proverbs 4:23. 1Thes. 2:19 KJ: "... in the presence of our Lord Jesus CHRIST at his coming?" CEV: "... when the Lord Jesus appears, ..." 1Thes. 5:22 KJ: "Abstain from ALL APPEARANCE of evil." CEV: "and don't have anything to do with evil." COMMENT: It's true that we should not have anything to do with evil. But, MORE THAN THAT, we are to abstain from ALL APPEARANCE of evil. 1Tim. 1:1 KJ: "... and LORD Jesus Christ, [which is] our hope;" CEV: "... Christ Jesus, who gives us hope." 1Tim. 1:17 KJ: "... the only WISE God, [be] honour and glory ..." CEV: "... honor and glory ... to the only God, ..." 1Tim. 5:21 KJ: "I charge [thee] before God, and THE LORD Jesus Christ, ..." CEV: "In the presence of God and Christ Jesus ..." 1Tim. 6:1 KJ: "... that the name of God and [HIS] DOCTRINE be not BLASPHEMED." CEV: "... This will keep people from saying bad things about God and about our teaching." COMMENT: We are "ambassadors for Christ" (2Co. 5:20) and as "ambassadors" we bring SOMEONE ELSE'S MESSAGE. Thus, we preach HIS (i.e. God's) DOCTRINE (KJ) and not 'our teaching' (CEV). Also, the CEV waters down BLASPHEMY to just 'saying bad things'. 1Tim. 6:5 KJ: "... from men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that GAIN IS GODLINESS: FROM SUCH WITHDRAW THYSELF." CEV: "... These people think religion is supposed to make you rich." COMMENT: In the CEV, the phrase; "FROM SUCH WITHDRAW THYSELF" is omitted. Also, the King James Bible warns against people that think GAIN IS GODLINESS. But, the CEV warns against people who think 'religion is supposed to make you rich' (i.e. that GODLINESS IS GAIN). The CEV is EXACTLY BACKWARDS. 1Tim. 6:10 KJ: "For the love of money is THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL: ..." CEV: "The love of money causes all kinds of trouble. ..." COMMENT: There is a big difference between the CEV's 'all kinds of trouble' and the correct King James reading of "THE ROOT" of ALL evil. 1Tim. 6:19 KJ: "... that they may lay hold on ETERNAL LIFE." CEV: "... that they will know what true life is like." COMMENT: 'True life' on this earth DOES NOT COMPARE to "ETERNAL LIFE"! 1Tim. 6:20 KJ: "... avoiding ... oppositions OF SCIENCE falsely so called:" CEV: "... Don't pay any attention to ... stupid talk that sounds smart ..." COMMENT: It's NOT 'stupid talk' that sometimes attacks the gospel, it's "SCIENCE" falsely so called. For example: The theory of evolution, which, BTW, has been proven wrong at some good creationist web sites, like: http://www.drdino.com http://www.answersingenesis.org http://www.icr.org 2Tim 1:7 KJ: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND." CEV: "God's Spirit doesn't make us cowards. The Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control." COMMENT: God has given us a SOUND MIND (KJ). But, it is GONE in the CEV. 2Tim. 1:11 KJ: "... and a teacher OF THE GENTILES." CEV: "... and a teacher." COMMENT: The TARGET AUDIENCE of the Apostle Paul's ministry has been REMOVED in the CEV. 2Tim. 2:15 KJ: "STUDY to shew thyself approved unto God, ..." CEV: "Do your best to win God's approval ..." COMMENT: We are supposed to STUDY the word of God. 2Tim. 2:25 KJ: "... instructing those that OPPOSE THEMSELVES; ..." CEV: "... correct people who oppose YOU. ..." COMMENT: The CEV is exactly BACKWARDS. 2Tim. 3:3 KJ: "... despisers of THOSE THAT ARE GOOD," CEV: "... hate everything that is good." 2Tim. 4:1 KJ: "I charge [thee] therefore before God, and THE LORD JESUS Christ, ..." CEV: "... So with God and Christ as witnesses, ..." Titus 1:4 KJ: "... from God the Father and THE LORD Jesus Christ our Saviour." CEV: "... God our Father and Christ Jesus our Savior ..." Titus 3:10 KJ: "A man that is an HERETICK after the first and second admonition reject;" CEV: "Warn troublemakers once or twice. Then don't have anything else to do with them." Philemon 6 KJ: "... which IS IN YOU IN CHRIST JESUS." CEV: "... all the blessings Christ has given us." Heb. 2:7-8 KJ: "... thou crownedst HIM with glory and honour, and didst set HIM over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put ALL THINGS in subjection under HIS feet. ..." CEV: "... you have crowned US with glory and honor. And you have put everything under OUR power! ..." COMMENT: The topic of this verse is JESUS, NOT man! JESUS has been given ALL POWER in Heaven and earth (see Matt. 28:18). HUMANISM is in the CEV. Note: The King James Bible GLORIFIES GOD; the CEV exalts MAN. Heb. 2:16 KJ: "For verily he (Jesus) took not on [him the nature of] angels; but he took on [him] the seed of Abraham." CEV: "Jesus clearly did not come to help angels, but he did come to help Abraham's descendants." Heb. 3:1 KJ: "Wherefore, HOLY BRETHREN, partakers of THE HEAVENLY CALLING, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, CHRIST Jesus;" CEV: "My friends, God has chosen you to be his holy people, So think about Jesus, the one we call our apostle and high priest!" COMMENT: Are we just 'friends', or are we "HOLY BRETHREN"? Do we have the heavenly "CALLING" (which puts the FOCUS on WHAT WE ARE TO DO FOR GOD), or is it the "diversion" of: 'holy people' (which puts the focus ON US)? And, is it ANYONE NAMED JESUS that is our high priest or is the ONE AND ONLY JESUS CHRIST? Heb. 4:8 KJ: "For if JESUS had given them REST, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day." CEV: "If Joshua had really given the people rest, ..." COMMENT: Our "REST" is in the LORD JESUS, not in Joshua! Heb. 7:21 KJ: "... Thou [ART] a priest for ever AFTER THE ORDER OF MELCHISEDEC:)" CEV: "... you WILL BE a priest forever! ..." COMMENT: What kind of priest? The CEV doesn't tell us because "After the order of Melchisedec" has been omitted. Also, it's NOT that Jesus 'will be' (i.e. in the future) a priest, he IS NOW a priest. Heb. 11:6 KJ: "... he is a rewarder of them that DILIGENTLY seek him." CEV: "... he rewards everyone who searches for him." COMMENT: We must DILIGENTLY seek him. Heb. 12:2 KJ: "Looking unto Jesus THE AUTHOR and finisher of [our] faith; ..." CEV: "We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who ... makes our faith complete. ..." James 5:16 KJ: "Confess [your] FAULTS one to another, ..." CEV: "If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. ..." COMMENT: The Bible says ONLY GOD can forgive sins (Luke 5:21). So, we confess our SINS to him. We should, however, confess our FAULTS to one another. Note: This doctrinal error in the CEV is ALSO in Catholic doctrine/practices. 1Peter 1:22 KJ: "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth THROUGH THE SPIRIT ..." CEV: "You obeyed the truth, and your souls were made pure. ..." COMMENT: What happened to God's HOLY SPIRIT? The King James gives God's Holy Spirit the GLORY. The CEV credits MAN. 1Peter 2:2 KJ: "... desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may GROW THEREBY:" CEV: "Be like newborn babes who are thirsty for the pure spiritual milk that will help you grow and BE SAVED." COMMENT: WHAT? Read this VERY carefully. You see, a person must be LIVING in order to GROW, and a person who is Spiritually alive ALREADY HAS SALVATION! So, why do they need milk to BE SAVED? 1Peter 3:15 KJ: "But SANCTIFY THE LORD GOD in your HEARTS: ..." CEV: "Honor Christ and let him be the Lord of your life. ..." COMMENT: The two verses are not even close enough to compare. Does the reader see any similarity? 1Peter 4:1 KJ: "Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered FOR US in the flesh, ..." CEV: "Christ suffered here on earth. ..." COMMENT: Christ suffered FOR US. Kind of the MAIN POINT, don't you think? 1Peter 4:14 KJ: "If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy [are ye]; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: ON THEIR PART HE IS EVIL SPOKEN OF, BUT ON YOUR PART HE IS GLORIFIED." CEV: "Count it a blessing when you suffer for being a Christian. This shows that God's glorious Spirit is with you." COMMENT: The CEV leaves out about half the verse including leaving out the GLORY God deserves. 1Peter 5:11 KJ: "To him [be] GLORY and dominion for ever and ever. Amen." CEV: "God will be in control forever! Amen." 2Peter 2:1 KJ: "... there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in DAMNABLE HERESIES, ..." CEV: "... False teachers will also sneak in and speak harmful lies to you. ..." COMMENT: The CEV has watered down this verse, too. The problem, as correctly stated in the King James Bible, is that the false teachers will bring in HERESIES and those heresies will be DAMNABLE. 2Peter 2:17 KJ: "... to whom the mist of darkness is reserved FOR EVER." CEV: "... The darkest part of hell is waiting for them." COMMENT: FOR EVER is a long time. Yet, that part of this warning has been DELETED in the CEV. 1John 1:7 KJ: "... and the blood of Jesus CHRIST his Son cleanseth us from all sin." CEV: "... And the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away." 1John 2:20 KJ: "But ye have AN UNCTION from the Holy One, AND YE KNOW ALL THINGS." CEV: "Christ, the Holy One, has blessed you, and now all of you understand." 1John 4:19 KJ: "We love HIM, because he first loved us." CEV: "We love because God loved us first." COMMENT: The CEV misses the FOCUS of this verse. "We love HIM (SPECIFICALLY) because he first loved us", and NOT we love (IN GENERAL). 1John 5:6-7 KJ: "This is he that came by water and blood, [even] Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three THAT BEAR RECORD IN HEAVEN, THE FATHER, THE WORD, AND THE HOLY GHOST: AND THESE THREE ARE ONE." CEV: "Water and blood came out from the side of Jesus Christ. It wasn't just water, but water and blood. The Spirit tells about this, because the Spirit is truthful. 7 In fact, there are three who tell about it. COMMENT: What three? Notice how verse 7 seems to leave the reader hanging. It is because a large portion of verse 7 is missing. 1John 5:8 KJ: "AND THERE ARE THREE THAT BEAR WITNESS IN EARTH, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree IN ONE." CEV: "They are the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and they all agree." 1John 5:13 KJ: "... that ye may know that ye have eternal life, AND THAT YE MAY BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF THE SON OF GOD." CEV: "... to let you know that you have eternal life." COMMENT: No reason is given for the rest of this verse being omitted. 2John 1:3 KJ: "Grace be with you, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father, AND FROM THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, the Son of the Father, in truth and love." CEV: "I pray that God the Father and Jesus Christ his Son WILL BE kind and merciful to us! May they give us peace and truth and love." COMMENT: What? Jesus Christ 'WILL BE' (future tense) kind to us? Hasn't he already? Rev. 1:9 KJ: "I John, ... was in ... Patmos, ... FOR the TESTIMONY OF JESUS CHRIST." CEV: "I ... John, ... was sent to Patmos ... because I had ... told about Jesus." COMMENT: The CEV misses GOD'S PURPOSE for John going to Patmos: It was for John to be a VESSEL to GIVE US the TESTIMONY OF Jesus Christ. Rev. 1:11 KJ: "Saying, I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, THE FIRST AND THE LAST: and, What thou seest, write in a book, ..." CEV: "The voice said, 'Write down what you see.' ..." COMMENT: It wasn't just a 'voice said', it was JESUS CHRIST speaking! Also, Jesus as the first and the last, is omitted in the CEV. Rev. 5:14 KJ: "... And the four [and] twenty elders FELL DOWN and worshipped HIM THAT LIVETH FOR EVER AND EVER." CEV: "... the elders knelt down and worshiped." COMMENT: Worshipped WHO? John? Sam? Sally? The devil? WHO? The CEV doesn't say. But in the KJ it is CLEAR: We worship him that "LIVETH FOR EVER"! Also, the elders didn't just 'kneel down', they FELL DOWN as correctly stated in the King James Bible. The same "falling down" happened to John in Rev. 1:17. John says that: "... I FELL at his (Jesus') feet AS DEAD. ..." Rev. 8:13 KJ: "... and heard AN ANGEL flying ... SAYING with a loud voice, ..." CEV: "... a lone EAGLE flying ... SHOUTING, 'Trouble, trouble, trouble ...'" COMMENT: How could the translators mis-translate ANGEL as eagle? Also, after that mis-translation, shouldn't they have caught their error when they also said the EAGLE WAS SHOUTING? Whoever heard of eagles 'shouting'? Rev. 11:17 KJ: "... We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, AND ART TO COME; ..." CEV: "... Lord God All - Powerful, you ARE and you WERE, ..." COMMENT: WHAT IS JESUS GOING TO DO? That's right: He is COMING AGAIN! But, you would not know it from the CEV. Rev. 12:12 KJ: "... Woe to THE INHABITERS OF the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, ..." CEV: "... But pity the earth and the sea, because the devil was thrown down to the earth. ..." COMMENT: There is a BIG DIFFERENCE in woe coming to the 'earth and sea' vs. to "THE INHABITERS OF" the earth and sea. Rev. 13:16 KJ: "And he causeth all, ... to receive a mark IN their right hand, or IN their foreheads:" CEV: "All people were forced to put a mark ON their right hand or forehead. ..." COMMENT: The "mark of the beast" will be IN the right hand or IN the forehead (as in the possibility of a microchip, or something IN the skin that CANNOT be washed off, etc.). Note: Something ON the right hand or ON the forehead could be more easily REMOVED. Rev. 15:3 KJ: "... thou King OF SAINTS." CEV: "... You are the ruler of all nations, ..." COMMENT: There is a difference between 'nations' and those that are SAINTS (i.e. SAVED). Rev. 16:7 KJ: "And I heard ANOTHER OUT OF THE ALTAR SAY, ..." CEV: "... I heard the altar SHOUT, ..." COMMENT: Whoever heard of an altar SHOUTING? Rev. 19:8 KJ: "And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and WHITE: for the fine linen is the RIGHTEOUSNESS of saints." CEV: "She will be given a wedding dress made of pure and shining linen. This linen stands for the good things God's people have done." COMMENT: The linen of the saints is "WHITE" because WHITE symbolizes PURITY. 'Shining' could be ANY COLOR. Also, fine linen is the RIGHTEOUSNESS of saints (which GOD GAVE TO US and HE GETS THE GLORY for it). The fine linen IS NOT the 'good things' God's people have done (which would give MAN the glory). Rev. 20:9 KJ: "... and fire came down FROM GOD out of heaven, ..." CEV: "... But fire will come down from heaven ..." COMMENT: The point is: It was GOD that judged. Rev. 21:24 KJ: "And the nations of them WHICH ARE SAVED shall walk in the light of it: ..." CEV: "Nations will walk by the light of that city, ..." COMMENT: A BIG difference. Rev. 22:14 KJ: "BLESSED [are] they THAT DO HIS COMMANDMENTS, ..." CEV: "God will bless all who have washed their robes. ..." COMMENT: What? 'Wash their robes'? Are those two verses the SAME? Brothers and sisters: If you want to be BLESSED, then DO HIS (Jesus') COMMANDMENTS! Amen? AMEN!
